My local Toyota dealer took a look yesterday (05/21/2007) to locate a Touring edition with package #6 and found only one (White w/gray). He said it will take 4 weeks to get it though because it is not at a dealership yet. He said his system checks the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana area.
I would imagine in this day and age, there must be some way to check across the Western U.S. or better; can anyone point me in the right direction to find my ideal: black exterior, gray interior, package #6, touring?
He told me he can order one from Toyota but it will take up to two months. Is this accurate?
Oh, and I am in Coeur d'alene Idaho area.
Thank you!

Toyota does not make very many Touring model Prius'. I heard it was something like 7-8% of all Prius will be Touring. I live in the SF Bay area and could only find a couple Touring models at the many dealers here. I personally decided that getting the color I wanted (Black on Black) :) and Package (#6) was more important than getting the Touring model. It is difficult to even get the Black and Dark Gray colors. They are really in demand around here.

I got $2100 off msrp, and the dealer said that they do not discount the Touring models.

Good luck on your hunt.

Option packages vary by location. There are different packages available in Northern and Southern California regions, for example.

Have you considered calling a few other dealers?

Yes, I've considered calling, but I was also wondering if I could do some kind of Internet search? Is that possible?
I guess Touring isn't critical, but isn't that the only way to get leather?
I hadn't realized the Touring was that small a number. Thanks for the info.
I think I'll pop up a couple steps in this forum and look at the options sticky too..

Thanks Chuck! Also, LandCruiser, my dealership in Coeur d'alene Idaho said they have a white one coming in 3 to 4 weeks. They are www.parkertoyota.com.

Chuck, doesn't that price sound a bit high? Not to argue too much... hey, I can't find one after all !! Thanks again for the info. Wonder if they'd ship to my local dealer? I won't hold my breath on that...

Can you tell me what the Molded Dash Applique is? Just one of the options on that vehicle in Texas.

Toyota of Bellevue in Bellevue, WA had your exact car about a month ago. I was looking for this same car but in Mag Gray, and they only had it in black. I originally wanted black but then got hooked on the Mag Gray. I ended up getting the Touring with #3 in order to get my Mag Gray. With touring and #3, you only lose leather (no heated seats anyway) and nav (I have a portable TomTom with traffic updates), since Touring always has the fog lights and HID.

Or you can order and wait (I was told up to 8 weeks to order), but then you also have to pay more, since they deal better when it's on the lot.

Good luck!

That price is MSRP, that is always the posted price on the internet, then you have you call them and negotiate. you may be able to have your dealer work out a deal for you.
The moulded dash applique is a wood-grained applique that is port installed on some cars in this area.
If you were local or fly in and pick-up, I would think you could get 2-3k off that MSRP.
I got 2k off MSRP in FEB and they are willing to discount more today.

I suspect a large portion of the savings would end up paying for airfare, especially for a one-way ticket without an advance purchase. If the OP would wait several weeks for an advance airfare, then why not simply wait at home for a car?

Good luck with the search. It took me a couple of weeks before I got my hands on a 07 Touring package 3 Super White with Beige interior. It was still in the container sitting at the port of Seattle when I purchased it. The dealer searched within the 200 mile radius to find it, he also said the Touring models are very hard to get since they don't make very many, according to his inventory sheet he has 50 Touring and 220 of the non touring allacated to his dealership since the 07 started to roll in from Japan, and he's the # 1 Toyota dealer in western Washington.

I spoke to my local dealership & they only deal with the four state region. I would have to deal directly with the Texas dealership. I think it is worth the wait to special order and deal locally especially if there are troubles that need to be addressed.
My local dealership will give me the Costco deal (whatever it amounts to) on the special order. I am going to see him on Thursday. I'll post my experiences when done.
Thanks!!!

As others have posted, Touring editions are in short supply. I was told only 5% of total Prius output is Touring editions. In the S.F. Bay Area, dealers are able to query factory shipments (cars "on the water") and if one has not been pre-sold, they can trade amongst themselves so that the car arrives directly at the selling dealer. That was how I got my Black/Taupe (Bisque?) Touring edition - it had originally been sold to another dealer but my dealer traded cars with the original dealer and the car arrived at my dealer with 3 miles on the odometer.

I don't know if a similar scheme is available in your neck of the woods, but you might enquire. Alternatively, PM me and I will give you the name of the dealer and sales rep I dealt with - the dealer is one of the larger ones in the S.F. Bay Area. Also, airfare to S.F. may be less than airfare to TX.

Honestly - I was considering the package 6 ... but aftermarket leather is much much, much better than factory leather.

The fact that you can add lumbar support and heated seats - and the leather is better quality - made it easy for me to take the 5 - make it a better 6 than toyota could offer factory.

If you buy out of state, check with your DMV first, and find out about sales tax.

You'll have to pay sales tax if you buy in a state with tax. You may be able to convince the dealer not to charge tax, but I doubt that: they can get in big trouble for that.

Your home state may charge sales tax unless you can prove you paid the dealer. (And then they'll charge the difference if your home tax is higher.)

And remember that you won't be able to have an out-of-state dealer handle the license/registration for you. They'll have to install a temporary plate; you do the rest at home.

That should not be too hard. All it takes is a copy of your driver's license showing the out-of-state residence address. I did an out-of-state purchase with my MINI. A copy of my CA driver's license got an exemption from OH sales tax (where the car was initially delivered).

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Auricchio @ May 22 2007, 07:59 PM) </div>
If your home state sales tax rate is less than the selling state's sales tax rate, I would imagine it would be even better to get an exemption from the selling state's sales tax - can you imagine the hassles trying to get a refund of over-paid sales tax... :)

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Auricchio @ May 22 2007, 07:59 PM) </div>
But realistically, that isn't that much effort. CA requires a SMOG test and a trip to the DMV for an inspection of the car, pay the tax and license fees and you are on your way with plates and registration tags. I did the whole process on my MINI with no appointment and was in and out in less than 30 minutes.

So you did the aftermarket leather? That does appeal to me when you mention heated seats. It gets mighty cold in Idaho in the winter! Can these heaters be added alone, if the factory leather is installed?
Mind if I ask how much you paid? I'm sure there are many threads on aftermarket leather so I don't want to hijack my own thread... :) That does give me food for thought though.
Lastly, is the package 5 otherwise the same? Just a difference in the leather?
Thanks for everyone's input on this!

keep in mind the loss of value by driving it home from a far location.. if you go to texas and drive it back 1500 miles you've just used 1% of the vehicle's life (assuming 150k)

it might be better to pay and ship it rather than drive it or just wait..

so you better be saving a lot over a local dealer to do it.. assuming you can get what you want in a reasonable amount of time

Hey all. I've been emailing the dealership in Bellvue Washington. He told me it is too late to order a 2007 & that I would have to order a 2008. Don't the '08 models not come out until late summer? He said that is one of the reasons these cars are hard to get right now. If that is the case (late summer), than maybe I will have to take a trip somewhere to get one... hum...

He's probably researching your region, and there's no cost incentive for him to get one into the region,he'd have to pay for that car,if you get enough dealers in the area bidding for your business, someone will pull strings. Remember Toyota allow-cates certain packages for certain regions, delivery's in your area should be in the begining of June and whatever came in recently.
