Well, my insurance company totaled my Prius- 3 weeks old - and will pay full price to me the amount that I paid for it. ( I had a few scary moments before I talked to the settlement adjuster.) Anyhow, repairing wasn't even an option so I went online to get quotes from SoCal dealers and got two (Toyota of Orange and Longo) that were about $300 below invoice (as near as I could tell). Several of the quotes were as much as $1200 more than the two low quotes. I ended up going with Longo because they were the only ones with a big enough inventory to have the color that I wanted. Longo does have a repair shop, although I didn't need to use it after all. Visiting the Longo site is sort of like going to a Toyota theme park. That place is huge!
Thanks to those of you who offered advice. Hopefully I won't have to ask for repair shop help anytime in the future.

Good that it worked out for you, what insurance company was this and what scary moments are you referring to? It might help us know how to deal with insurance companies.

I am with 21st Century , and the scary moments came when I talked to my credit union (who financed the Prius) and they told me I mgiht have to come up with additional cash after the pay off. The person I spoke to told me that I should have had GAP insurance! After finally getting hold of the settlement adujuster, he assured me that a car that was within one year old, was covered for total replacement of original cost. (Since my car was only 3 weeks old, I was in good shape.) That whole GAP insurance thing is something worth considering, though!
