After getting my new Treo 750, I was disappointed when I discovered that the signal strength and battery meters on the MFD did not communicate with my phone via Bluetooth. It's tricky to make a call when you don't know if it's going to drop out. I found a solution: go to http://www.jetwaremobile.com/ This program will not only restore meter data communication, but it also adds additional features regarding phone-book transfer. I cannot speak on the latter as I haven't done any testing as yet. So far (one day of use) I'd say it's definitely worth the $15. This program also works on other Windows Mobile smartphones - check out the site for a list.

Did it improve call handling by bluetooth at all?

I've had no problems with call quality or performance - either with my old Treo 650 or the new 750. Clear sound and no dropouts.

What are your impressions of the Jetware Mobile software so far?

Have you been able to transfer the phonebook contacts from your Treo 750 to the Prius? If so how did you accomplish it? It looks like it can only be done one at a time and must be pushed from the Treo once the car is waiting for the information. Is there a bulk push method available?

    Thanks.

Looks interesting, if this can make the interface between my T-Mo Dash and the Prius more graceful then I'm totally there for it. If only Missing Sync would actually let me install it - the joys of using a Mac with a Windows Mobile device. Going to try another method to install it and then try it out tonight on the drive home.

Because of this post, I downloaded jetwaremobile last night onto my Treo 700WX. It doesn't sync everything with the car (and doesn't even claim to be compatible with the Prius / 700 WX), but it does do some neat things - I get the signal & battery meters now + I figured out how to download phone numbers to the car in large quantities (based on Outlook categories).

I wish it was more compatible with the Prius - Outlook messages, etc. I haven't had it installed long enough to see if calls are handled better or worse. Not sure yet if it's worth the $15.00 registration or not, but still have 29 days to test it.

SSmith - From memory, I moved each Outlook category to the Prius by changing the phone number quantity to 1 (only the first number per name - otherwise there are duplicates & you can't tell them apart easily), the name length to 20, the name format to "First Last" and then the transfer format to the next selection after "GSM" (don't have my phone handy, but it has an 8 in it - easy to recognize). Then, I initiated the data transfer screen on the Prius and on the phone. I messed up a couple of times & it was easy enough to delete all the numbers in that specific group (referred to the Prius manual for instructions).

    Rick,

Thanks for the advise. I used your input with some other information I have found online and was able to get my contacts transferred.

I learned that the format for each contact is as follows:

    BEGIN:VCARD
    VERSION:2.1
    N;CHARSET=UTF-8:Contact Name
    TEL;CHARSET=UTF-8;WORK:##########
    TEL;CHARSET=UTF-8;CELL:##########
    TEL;CHARSET=UTF-8;HOME:##########
    END:VCARD

Based off of Rick's post the maximum length on the contact name is 20 characters, additionally anything other that letters will cause the entry not to load. I choose to put in "LastName FirstName" format. The second thing is that the address book only allows for 2 phone numbers per contact; if you have more than 2 numbers it will create a second contact with the same name. I listed the 3 number types that I used though I chose to limit it to the 2 most often used numbers per contact.

I exported my contacts to Excel and deleted all but the first name, last name, phone numbers and category columns. I also deleted any contacts that I had in the phone more for reference than actual use (like old business contacts). I created a CONCATENATE formula to format the remaining columns like shown above, ignoring any number fields that were blank.

My text file with the contacts listed had a ".vcf" extension; I am not sure what other extensions might work if any. I saved each of my Outlook categories (FAMILY, FRIENDS, BUSINESS, COWORKERS...) into its own .vcf file and copied the files to my phone.

In the Prius I renamed the groups to match my categories. I next went into the address book management and did a transfer, selecting each of my newly renamed groups as the destination. On the phone I had to pick each file and beam it while the Prius was waiting. Instead of beaming many numbers I only had to transfer a handful of files to get it done.

I did not try to connect my Buletooth laptop to the Prius to see if the files could transfer directly without having to send them to the phone first. If that worked it would be quite easy for others to transfer their contacts even if they did not have a Palm or Windows Mobile phone.

I hope this helps others looking to transfer their contacts to the Prius.
