I had a question earlier about window tinting, but wanted to get a little more info. I think the black tint on a white Prius looks great, but wondered how much this would cost, and where I should get it done. Does anyone else have white with tint?

On another note, I may have made a few remarks earlier that were denigrating to those who like cats, and show their cat pride with their Avatars. Since then, I've been working to make a few positive changes about my opinion of cats and their owners; you may see this reflected in my own avatar. Best wishes to all.

Here in Okla you can have the car tinted with a "stripe" at the top of the frt windshield. I've had it done here
But they scratch the non-prius care with their box knives on both sides of the car. Next time I'm going to take the service writer out to the car and show them that it doesn't ahve any scratches and document it so if they screw it up, they can pay for the touchup

The quality of the tint you select will typically make the biggest difference in expense. There are materials that are easier to install and require less labor as well. IMO, the ceramic tints are the best right now ... they also seem to be the most expensive ... go figure. We have Huper Optik on one car and nothing on the other (yet). YMMV, but expect to spend upwards of $400 for high-end tinting.

What also looks nice on a white Prius is black door molding to stop damage from other's doors when parked. My black molding has a red stripe that looks even more sensational.

$400 eh? i'd like to get my prius tinted up. looks cool and better for hiding things in the passenger floor space area like cd books and whatnot. anyone have this done on their prius in chicago and have any recommendations on where to have this done? much appreciated.

PS i live in bucktown right off western so someplace close by, if you had a good experience would be great.

we paid 339 for ceramic (that was less a $30 coupon).... it would have been 279 (then minus $30) for the metal... we liked the color of the ceramic better (more grey... the metal was greenish)

i would never put the dyed stuff on my car... it turns purple!

I paid 150 for limo tint all around, on every window (even the mini windows in the front side) except the windshield.

we were going to get varying degrees of tint.... including limo on the tiny front windows.... but formulaone doesn't come in limo.... so we ended up with 15% all around....

I got all done for about $250 in '04. We did dark all around and medium on the front sides. The little hatch window presented a color matching challenge since it already has a little smokeyness.

California law says you can only have a VERY light tint on the front side windows (which sucks for a sunny state). We went one step darker than 'legal' and have never had a problem. Just yesterday I had our new van tinted up like the Prius, the tint guy said the 'medium' front windows never get ticketed desipite they're technically illegal. My truck imported from Arizona had 'dark' side windows and I got a ticket about 2years into ownership.

Good tint jobs look good on any car.

I wish we could get away with that here in Texas. You're good for the first 2 years but come inspection time they won't renew you due to having film rated at less then 35%.

A great tint job in the DFW area runs about $259 where I got mine done. The guy who did it has been doing window tint for over 20 years and does an excellent job. All 10 windows.
