ConsumerAffairs.Com is at it again

Now I'm a total Priuschat newby and I can tell from the article that it doesn't hold water. The quotes are rehashed from other articles on the site. If the Prius was falling apart as implied, they shouldn't need to copy the quotes.

tell me what car i can buy that is bulletproof, has no potential for failure EVER, and is completely unsusceptible to operator error under any and all conditions. and tell me why they haven't sold millions of them this year alone.

 

how about all the 700R tranny's that GM had fail with low mileage or how about all the leaking plastic intake manifolds that cost GM owners hundred's of thousand dollars in repairs. How about all the Ford trannys that popped into reverse and ran over the drivers as they got out to check their mail boxes. How about all the crappy Chrysler V8's with the ThermoQuad carbs that leaked and caught fire. How about all the GM quadra jet carbs that flooded and set the cars and trucks on fire. How about all the Audi's that burnt up when subject to the load of mountain driving. How about all the Audi's that the cruise control caused to suddenly accelerate. Enough for now but the list is endless and they have 3 or 4 cars that caused trouble. non issue. Piss useless journalism in my opinion.

 

The morons at ConsumerAffairs.com have to go back to Logic 101.

Anecdotal evidence proves nothing. Show some valid statistical data and then you may have a point. I suspect that statistical data doesn't support their agenda that the Prius is unreliable, so they bury it under a small pile of anecdotes. Nice try.

 

Stop pouring gasoline into the MFD and it will last longer!

Is there a word for this depth of stupidity (on the part of the interviewed OR the interviewer)?

Dude... you're talking about problems with carburetors... you're going back 30 years. You're doing the same thing as consumer affairs, nothing less.

As for the Audi, it wasn't the CC, it was the transmission. And that only happened if you happened to hook a high pressure air supply to the transmission, fire up an air compressor, and force the transmission to accelerate. You're perpetuating the same myth that Audi had to deal with for a decade. Again, no better than consumer affairs.

Oh, so if there is a problem with a Prius, and it's out of warranty, then you're out of luck, and will have to junk the car. Oh, sure, I believe that.

I did allow the salesman to sell me an extended warranty. I'm not even sure what it covers, but I've got one.

People are scared to death of hybrids. Don't ask me why, but they are. And there is a whole group that feeds their fears with outright lies. It couldn't be the UAW, could it?

come for a drive up the Coqahalla hiway and check out the Audi "patches" as they are locally known as. It's not an old problem it's an ongoing problem. Or the Ford fwd tranny problems with the OD actuator that dealers want $3500 to repair, replacement is their cure. Vehicles have problems and it's been going on since they were put on the market. All I really wanted to say was my last line.

No actually they don't. Their whole site and raison d'etre is based on fear and emotion. Currently it's the Prius that's a favorite whipping boy because of its high profile and Toyota's deep pockets but CA concerns itself with anything that might scare a consumer into signing up as part of a class action.

Logic has nothing to do with it. As Tony noted this fear mongering does spread like a cancer.
