    Hi all,

    I've been lurking and researching for a while, and I'm ready if the right car comes along. Here was an interesting offer I just received:

    2007 Touring Package 5 (I think: Navigation, fabric seats, and I think it has the touring tail, but I'm not sure - how can I tell?)

    Thus it has:
    Navigation
    Fancy stereo/changer
    Traction Control
    Alloy Wheels
    and the normal options

    It's got 6600 miles on it. It's green (okay, it's a wierd color.)

    We went to start it for a test drive, and the battery was dead. Is this a bad sign? And they couldn't figure out how to jump-start it. I figured it was the best time to make an offer - I told him if he got me to 23000 OTD I'd jump-start it myself. He offered me 23,000 before taxes and tags, and he'd have it jumped and available tomorrow. Should I take it? Demand better? Pass on the deal completely? Buy new instead? Please offer your opinions.

    Also, if I'm considering a used prius, what should I be looking for in a test drive?

    Thanks for your advice, and all the great info on the boards. I hope I can contribute in the future (meaning once I have a Prius.)

    Sounds like a fair deal, it's not uncommon for the 12v battery to run down if the vechicle sits for a long period of time. Good luck.

    The attached image is a standard Prius. The Touring has bigger wheels & thinner tires and a larger spoiler. If this is at a Toyota dealer they should have a standard one you can compare it to. You should get 2 fobs, the manuals, and trays for the upper glovebox in the dash and the center armrest.

    Without, but I don't think that's relevant in the Eastern US. Is it? Are there roads around NY/NJ/PA where you can use an HOV lane?

    I haven't heard of any. Virginia has a special license plate for HOV use.

    I think Virginia's now selling a 'clean fuel' plate that doesn't entitle hybrids to use the HOV lanes on 66 and 95, though cars with the older plates are still ok for now...

    I bought it! Certified, with the platinum warranty to 100k miles.

    Now for the next question...what happens after 100k miles? You're pretty much stuck taking it to the dealership for everything, and I expect that'll get expensive. Any words on what to do in the later stage of prius life?

    Particularly, I have seen confusing talk about battery/hybrid warranty going to 150k miles in some states. So this 2005 Prius was originally put into service in Maryland. It's now registered in PA. How do I know what the hybrid warranty goes to?

    The 150,000 mile warranty applies only to CARB states as listed on the window sticker. (I'm not home so can't check.) PA is not a CARB state. In 2005 MD wasn't a CARB state. For almost everyone nothing happens at 100,000 miles. Taxi fleets have gone well over twice that far without major maintenance.

    The question about the warranty terms when a car is moved between a CARB and nonCARB has been asked and not answered by any competant authority.

    Pay no attention to those who think the battery will die, catch fire, or explode.
