I just bought a 2005 Silver Prius Package#6 with added leather. The car is Toyota certified one owner with 15k on the clock. I picked it up for $21,400 and got $13,000 for the Kia.

Edmunds has my trade value at $12,600 and the certified Prius at $25,900. I think I got a damn good deal.

I will be picking it up Tuesday after I get the check from my credit union.

I traded in a beautiful 2005 Kia Amanti with leather and all the trimmings. So sad to see the Kia go but not to sad about the 13mpg she was getting in the city with it. I think the Prius in the city will get about 35mpg in stop and go traffic with lights every 1/8 of a mile.

    Cheers,
    Jim

Read about pulsing and gliding, deadbanding, inflate your tires to 44/44 and get 4x the mileage of your previous relic engine.

Congrats on the purchase! $21,400 with only 15K miles on the clock is a great buy for a Certified Prius.

You're probably going to have a hard time getting 35mpg. Unless you have a very short commute, you will get much better than this.

I have a short commute (about 11 mi or 15 to 20 min) and for the first 5 min the car is warming up, but I still get 47 or 48 mpg without much effort.

Mazel Tov, and congrats on being a Prius Owner! I purchased an '07 Package 1 in Feburary. I do mostly city driving and get about 53 MPG. Pump up those bad boy tires to 42/40. Owning a Prius will probably change your driving style (as it did mine), and coast to red lights and try to anticipate traffic flow. If you do any highway driving, try to "draft" behind large trucks to really boost MPG! But most importantly, enjoy your car!! Everything else will come in time! Again, congradulations on your purchase.

My wifes commute is about 1.5 mi round trip with kids. Thats why she was only getting 13 in the kia. there are six stops and two lights on that commute.

    I coast to stops now!!!!!

Not to be a pessimist or anything, but did you research the VIN before buying it?

Welcome, fellow Massachusetts Prius Owner! In my five-mile commute (with lots of lights, stop signs, and hills) I was getting about 37 MPG in the coldest winter months. Now I'm getting about 45 MPG. Chances are you'll do even better!

    Welcome! You done good!

As Stev0 says, you might get as low as 35 in the dead of the MA winter. You might want to invest in a block heater, if you're keeping it garaged. It'll make those short commutes less painful on the MPG.

I've never gotten less than 42 mpg even with lights every 1/4 mile. You'd have a really hard time getting the mileage into the high 30's unless you were flooring it and braking almost constantly. Yesterday, I got 73 mpg around a 15 mile stretch of windy road near my house. Lots of pulsing and gliding.

What sort of mileage are you getting when it's 10 degrees outside?

With a commute like you described, expect mileage in the low 30s in the winter (maybe 30-29) and high 30s in the summer, without fooling around with "pulse and glide" etc. You'll be happy ;)

She'll probably get around 37 then. That is what I get with about the same commute. I just drive it normally since it is warming up most of the commute.
