When I got mine it was only available in black. The BT part made a big difference for me that I noticed when driving down the highway. I don't need to keep correcting the steering wheel and the car feels more stable with the part.

My next door neighbor is a auto mechanic and he installed it for me in just a few minutes. Even without me asking he mentioned that the part was very high in quality.

Welcome to the forum and congrats, I'm glad you noticed a difference "as do most".....
These testimonials are great to sooth the concerns of those who don't really know if it will work but only seems to inflame those who fear it doesn't work before they buy it!

Its always fun to see the response of those who try it for the first time... it tends to bring back memories of when I first put mine on!

For me it was a little subtile, until I went cruising through the mountains...

Welcome to the craziness out here!.... there tends to be strong opinions at times....
some of those convictions are based on experience, others on rational and fear, but it does make for interesting conversation...

    Welcome!

It really is ashamed they are not more visible and we have to hide it......Brian could have made a simple blank piece of steel....but these are a beauty to behold in your hands! Quite a piece of art!

I just see it as a spirit of excellence to see so much talent and care go into a plate..... its no wonder Brian has never had anyone want to return one in the past.

As beautiful as it is, I suppose I would want to return it if I honestly thought it was not doing anything functional to improve my ride, fortunately thats never been an issue.

You could indeed! I would encourage you to post a picture of your plate painted in plaid to this thread. It might encourage others to follow in your expression of creativity.

    Hello Everyone,

There seems to be some confusion that is probably my fault. Since I only made a very limited quantity of the Red, Silver and Blue colored BT Tech plates, the Prius Chat store does not have the color options so therefore when we receive your order, it is processed/shipped as a standard black plate.

If you want one of mentioned colored plates, please email me direct at [email protected]

If there is a large demand for these colors, then I will put them in serial production but for right now they are only offered for a limited period of time.

Well, you could always roll your vehicle and expose the bottom if you're that determined to show your undies.

I too live in a verywindy area (So.Cal. desert) and have to drive on I-10 several times per week through the pass where crosswinds can get over 50 mph or greater (there's a reason all of those windmills are up there!). I have had my 06 Prius for a year now, and the one thing I've had a major complaint about is how much the car gets buffeted around in those crosswinds! If there is anything that will help, I'm certainly willing to shell out the $165. Your post seems to indicate it helps a great deal -- now that you've had the BT stiffening plate for a while, do you still feel it helps keep the car more stable in high crosswinds? I'd appreciate your response before I order. Also, I am totally not mechanical and wonder if my local Toyota dealer will install the thing for me?
    Thanks,
    Ron in Rancho Mirage, CA

The dealer should have no problems installing the BT plate. If they give you any grief, take the car to another dealer. Regarding buffeting in cross winds, you could have your alignment checked. If the Toe setting is not at spec, you could be experiencing wander as a result. Personally, I would check the alignment before ordering the plate. If the alignment is at spec and your Prius is wandering, then try the BT plate. If the car wanders after the BT plate, you are looking at wider tires.

As I stated previously, my dealer (Northampton, Ma) absolutely refused to install the plate. They, in fact, told me they spoke directly with Toyota and again were warned not to have anything to do with it.

    Just so you know.

And, as my second sentence stated: "If they give you any grief, take the car to another dealer."

    Just so you know.

Careful... conflating mechanics with oil change places is bordering on insulting the mechanic....

This is very true.... I have known of many occassions where some of these oil change places drain the oil fine but sometimes forget to put oil back in the engine!!

Seriously speaking though practically anyone with the proper tools can install one of our BT Tech plates in less than 15 minutes.
