With the world going to hell in search of oil, is owning a Prius a political statement?

Only if you make it one, but don't expect other people to know exactly what that statement is.

One person's might be that global warming is the crisis.

Someone else's might be that relying on (and buying) foreign oil is a problem.

Another's might be that they are way cool trendsetters.

I think the early adapters are likely the greenies, while people like me don't want to give a dime to people who hate us....

    Plus, it is way cool.

Yes. It was for me. But, it wasn't the only reason I bought it.

Only if you slap a political bumper sticker on it. Someone posted that there are three types of owner: Greenie, Techie, & Cheapie. Pick two.

Owning a prius is hedonistic, not political, unless you belong to a hedonistic political movement.

Prii fulfill 3 of Jordan's 4 types of product-related pleasure:
    Physio-pleasure, ideo-pleasure, & psycho-pleasure.
PriusChat fulfills the fourth type -- socio-pleasure.

Yes! It says, "I'd like to keep burning gasoline for transportation when I don't need to."

Just what I was going to say, only if you make it one. In my case, I don't want to buy much gas, and I want a car that is fun to drive. I am also a technology freek.

Yes, it's saying that you are an independent thinker, ahead of the curve, and that you smoke pot.

    Or maybe not.

But it does say you like to save the planet a little bit, while saving some cash as well when you fill up.

    That says something.

It all depends. Some people do buy a Prius to make a statement. For some, it is a statement on the environment. For others, it is a statement on politics. And for me, the only statement I cared about when I bought my Prius was my monthly gas card statement. :D

One of my only complaints about the Prius is that everyone assumes you are a bleeding heart liberal. ;)
