I went Prius shopping at Ft. Myers Toyota (in Ft. Myers, FL, natch) and found that their inventory was basically two (despite the online promise of 10), and one was driving off the lot. I went in looking for Barcelona Red but found I liked the lone Pine Mica package #2 car much better. Supposedly this was an ordered car which the person ended up not taking. Two miles on the odometer, no less.

I had high hopes as they were willing to work with my credit union's pricing. My salesman was fairly low key, but then he disappears and returns with the sales manager, "who always does the numbers on credit union deals." He presents me with an "invoice" which says $23,600, and tells me the credit union "tells them" they can charge $1500 over invoice. He tacks the dealer fee on top of that, for a price exclusive of tax and tag of $25575. I'm confused but still laughing inside because he's managed to quote me a price substantially higher than the sticker but tells me I'm getting a "$760 discount." Granted this is a SE Region car, which has the idiotic "Toyoguard Plus" on it, but I've been through the MSRP pricing several times and I always come up less than this price.

I told him I had a price about $3000 less in mind, and he starts to bluster, but I cut him off by saying politely but firmly I'm not paying his price. He offers to "go" another $500, but that's still too much for me.

So, once again, the curse of the Ft. Myers knuckleheads strikes again. 22 years in this town and I've never found a straight-shooting dealer.

So, anyone have a good experience with a dealer in peninsular Florida? I'll travel: Tampa, east coast, Orlando, I don't really care. I'd like someone who can deliver on a promised car, as I have no desire to drive three hours each way for nothing.

Well, sir, I feel your pain! I've just ordered a "Pine Mica Silver" Prius from Ft. Myers Toyota - and had to go through part of the hassle that you endured with the Sales Manager - who makes a living by being a high-pressure "bad guy" in the negotiations. My wife just about dissed the deal because she dis-liked him so much!

But we do have a good and fair salesman there - Bill Marx is his name. He's been in the biz a long time, and is a class act. I highly recommend him - as long as he doesn't bring in his overweight and overbearing counterpart, the Sales Manager! Remember one thing - the Prius is "hot" and so they don't "deal" very much. Don't have to - if you don't want the car, somebody's right behind you, eager to buy one.

We've shopped all around south Flawed-duh! for a Prius - and in the end have found some dealers that have been rude and high-pressure. But two that have shown me courtesy and consideration are Ft. Myers Toyota and Alan Jay Toyota up in Sebring. Earl Stewart over in W. Palm Beach seems fair - but his prices are about $500 above Ft. Myers prices.

As for Toyoguard - disss it immediately. It's one of those "let's see how much money we can make" thangs that would promise you one thing, but deliver, uh, well, NOT. A rip-off, IMHO. We did NOT order it.

Go Online with Alan Jay Toyota in Sebring - talk with Randy Manuel there - he may be able to help you. Very easy to work with, and eager to Please. Earl Stewart might be good for you. I do NOT recommend Germain Toyota in Naples - our deal with them fell through for several very serious reasons. At least we got our deposit back!

I bought my Prius at Sun Toyota of New Port Richey, my Prius came from Gettel Toyota in Brandenton who was the only dealer in Fl at the time of purchase that had it in stock in the color and package I wanted, since they offered me retail value on my trade in(03 VW Beetle with 68K miles trade in 8,600 got 11,600 for it) I saw no reason to beat up the sales guy anymore  I payed the $27,600 for Package #6 got the free Llumar window tint + free lifetime powertrain warranty which is available free of charge at some Florida dealerships, the Prius sells fast! One day I drove by the dealer and saw 6 cars, 4 days later none!

I can't be of much help, other than to suggest that you avoid the Toyota dealer in Naples. "Clowns" would be putting it mildly.

I wrote off Germain weeks ago. I went to their "tent sale" at the Bonita Springs Dog Track two weeks ago. They loudly trumpeted on the teevee that they had no dealer markup. The salesbuffoon tries to hold me to the $1500 dealer addon "market adjustment." When I point out their deceptive ad, he tries to tell me that was a factory sticker. Plus, they had exactly one car and they couldn't find the smart key; however, they still wanted to deal. I guess I was wearing my "I'm with Stupid" shirt that day.

I dealt with Denny Doyle at Ft. Myers Toyota. He claimed to have been the only person to know the car was even there as he'd ordered it for a "lady friend" who wanted the bisque interior instead after seeing the gray in person. I drive past every day on my way to work, and I swear I saw him this morning sitting by the car in his golf cart. The car is listed in their online inventory with an MSRP nearly $600 less than their "offer" so I'm at a total loss as to understand what discount they were giving me. I suppose it's $700-something off the "market adjusted" price.
