I have to wait until mid September before I get my Prius here in Norway.

As for your question: I don't have first hand experience on the Prius, but I don't think you should be too optimistic. As for speed cameras, the is no way to upload your own data into the NAV in the Prius. And map updates are at best once a year. In this perspective it is better to have a TomTom or Garmin unit. But I'll throw out my Garmin when i get my Prius.

By the way, did you order with the IPA? I did, just to get the rear view camera!

The GPS NAV data is on a DVD located under the driver's seat. New versions come out from time to time. To update, you simply replace the DVD disk.

Welcome to PriusChat, both znabel and skanDALE! It's exciting to see the Prius sales growing in Norway. One mod you may both be interested in is the Engine Block Heater. The one you see discussed here most is the 110V north American model, but a 240V one exists. Use the Search function to look for posts.

 

An engine block heater is a very good advice indeed. With the cold winters here, a engine block heater is good not only for mileage, but is also very good for the engine as a whole.

By the way, does anybody know if the european Prius has the thermos to keep the engine warm? This will not replace an engine block heater, I'm just curious.

On another topic, it's too bad Coastal E Tech doesn't ship outside the US, I'd really like the Ultimate LockPick 3+. I've used my Garmin Nüvi 360 as both GPS and BlueTooth handsfree, and I don't like the thought of having to stop to enter a new destination or call a number not in my address book... :-(

But I guess the Prius can't be all perfect.

Hi Stein. As far as I know, the EU Prius does not have the thermos for coolant. I think that's just a north American emissions add-on. The Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is spun up to about 1000 rpm before fuel and spark are applied, so it is well oiled before it has load. What kind and weight of oil does your car come with? Many here, particularly in the northern US and Canada, use synthetic oil for increased cold lubricity.

An EBH will get both the ICE and you warmer faster in the Norwegian winter...

I live in the UK and have just fitted the DEFA 240V EBH. This is different to the Toyota one in that it is a plate that bolts on the the back of the block below the coolant drain point. It was still a fiddle to fit and what I am not sure about is did I get a good contact with the heat sink paste. Have you or any body else got any info on what temperature rise you should get after approx 2hrs.

i see more and more priuses in the traffik in oslo every week

just a tip to mark your speedtraps/cameras a bit more manual but : just drive with Your map/navi on

when You pass a speedcam/trap push the mark button ,,, You now have a blue flag on it..

when You get home or parked.. go in to the menu and edit Your favourite marks (think the limit is 200),, change the icons on the the speedcameras to "sound icon" and choose the "ding" sound .. ive done this for a year and i think most speedtraps are marked by now.. and i get a nice "ding" sound every time i close into one
.its important that You go into the map before going on a trip to say agree to the "toyota message". If You dont , you wil not get any warnings..after agreed ,, YOu will then get the warning sound whatever You have on the screen.

its not perfect,since it wont work on first time trips , but atleast You do not forget speedcams/traps...
im pretty sure You can get info on where all cams are located, and then put them in manually... shouldnt take more than an hour.

I called my preferred Toyota dealer (where I have ordered my Prius) and asked about the oil. All Prii sold in Norway are delivered with Mobile1 5W40 syntetic oil.

The dealer also asked me to keep him informed about tips and tricks I learn in these forums, as he wants to learn to know the Prius better...

In Norway there is special purchase tax on new cars, since this year favouring diesels because of the lower CO2 emission. The Prius got NKK 12000 reduction in spite of being a hybrid...


A Prius in Norway is between NKK 270.000 and NKK 340.000 (roughly) depending on package.


Anyway: Yesterday I drove the 85 km stretch from Tvedestrand to Porsgrunn on the E18, using 4,1 l/100 km of gas. Never used less before, usual consumption is 4,5 l/100 km or more, depending on load and luggage...

And almost every trip I make, I see another Prius along the way.

So if a top of the line Prius in Norway is 340,000 Kr., or at today's exchange rate of 5.97, that would be just about $57,000!

At least you get your Prius without the gas tank bladder and you do get an EV switch!

Here in Texas they run $22,000 to about $29,000, before a $2,500 dealer discount.
