I live in Fresno, in the Great Central Valley of California. Both Prii I and II are rare in central California.

I ordered, in person, in April 2004. I ordered a 2005 knowing full well I would have to wait a while. I eliminated trying to compete for a 2004. At the time I ordered, I placed a $500 deposit. Michael Toyota was and remains courteous, professional and has kept me informed. The dealer volunteered, "you probably know more about the car than we do."

Package & color: Silver AM (for 2005, No. 6). I was offered a gold color vehicle earlier, but declined and decided to wait for the silver color I ordered.

How much longer expected to wait: two days (Wednesday, 20 October). On Saturday, 16 October, the Internet Sales Manager advised me the transport company has three days to deliver the vehicle (from Los Angeles Harbor to Fresno). The dealer expects to take no more than two hours to detail the vehicle once received. In effect, the transport company takes full possession of the vehicle until delivered to a dealer.

Micheal Toyota at MSRP. Toyota of Selma (30 mi south) stated up front they will add $3k to the price. I left that dealer and have not returned.

I have only been on one list.

My summary so far is that there is 1 waiting a year (pretty huge outlier), several at about 5 months, and most shorter than that with almost everyone anticipating delivery in the next month or two.

I've seen a number of posts from dealers in the past couple weeks with available at MSRP cars on the lot they're trying to find buyers for. I think the backlog is almost gone in most parts of the country and with the influx of 100k cars over the next year I bet we'll start seeing MSRP be the norm and some haggling for less than that with no waiting.

    Hallelujua!!

Been waiting since 15th Sept. Was told it'll be here by the end of Oct... and yes, after reading this topic, as Canuck said, it seems US waiting times are longer... perhaps it's the population differences and hence the no. of people purchasing the Prius? I mean they sell waaay more Camrys and Accords in the US than they do in Canada

I've been waiting a total of 9 months now. I'm number 1 on the list. I just got the call from my dealer saying he had good news and bad news. The good news: He could have a car for me within a month. The bad news: It wouldn't be what I ordered. I ordered a black BC with gray interior. My dealer said that the only option I have is to get the tan interior as Japan is not sending any black BC's over with gray interior.

Is Toyota of Japan really that selfish to keep this color combination for themselves or is my dealer full of it?

It could be based on truth. In Europe all the interiors (AFAIK) are "Grotty Grey". We dont get a tan option (or any other colour), so maybe the production of that option is comming our way as opposed to staying in Japan.

Well I ordered my White #9 2005 MSRP back in March from Newark Toyota World, in Newark, DE. knowing I wouldn't see anything until Sept/Oct. Have talked to them a number of times with no good results or definite time frame. Seems to me their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. I get so frustrated when I call them, I've just stopped. I will probably continue to wait unless my other wheels start giving me problems. I've got the cash, so at some point if I don't get a call from them I'll just go and invest my money in a U.S. car and stop being at the whim of the Japanese. I really would like a Prius, but the wait and the arrogance of the dealerships is pissing me off! :cussing: :cussing:

I ordered mine in January. I have been #1 on the list for about two months now. I turned down a Tideland Pearl and a Salsa red. After all this time I am holding out for my original choice of Silver (BC). My dealer told me yesterday that my car may be on their next allotment. He'll know by Thursday. It will be at MSRP.

Meanwhile, the wait appears to be getting worse in Europe. I ordered 17th September, and the dealer today said they had no firm date yet but were estimating February or March.

When I ordered my car at the dealer here in Aug they told 18 months. (I was expecting and anticipating some wait, but not that long.) I called them in Sept to change my order to a 2005 when the info for those were official. They were still holding to the same wait time. They also already factored in a 50% production increase in May 2005. But one little upside the dealer told me in Sept that they were seeing a small increase in cars coming with the recent shipments. I'll call next month to see what things look like. I'm hoping they'll have a better idea of the increased allotments.

Ordered through broker around March 12th (two days after a PriusChat get-together), Tideland Green AM (2005 #4), for MSRP. Was offered a Driftwood #4 last week, turned it down; at one time Driftwood had been my second choice, but broker told me earlier that I would get a Tideland, so I had narrowed my expectations to a Tideland.

Current wishful thinking is late November / early December (I'm #7 in line at the dealership the broker is going through.)

There are now 3-4 NextGen Prii parked within 3 blocks of my house in Seattle. (One of them is Tideland Pearl. Arggghhh! )

    1)where you live: Boise, Idaho

    2)how long you've been waiting: Since 9/5/03

That's not a typo--it's 13.5 months so far! (I suggest we all send a dollar to the person who waits the longest, because I think I have a shot at it.)

3)what package/color(s) you're waiting for: BC #9 (2004 originally), Tideland Pearl, Salsa Red, or Seaside Pearl

4)How much longer you've been told to expect to wait: 'Last I heard, a few more weeks . . .

    5) Any additional info (like 'dealer's been selling at over MSRP and I'm on the wait list for one at MSRP, or how many wait lists you're on, or whatever) would be great too:

I ordered from Carson Toyota in S. Cal. through Diane & just decided to wait it out.

At the risk of getting the wrath of you folks waiting....I got one tonight from a dealer that was passed over by all on the waiting list. I was never even on the list, had just called as I'd seen they had some in inventory. Sales person told me they've sold them across country at MSRP.

I'm sure demand is much higher in CA than mid-atlantic.

Now, to figure out all the doo dads...

After 11 months wait, I got the call today. My car should be here within 10 days. Everything I wanted plus the Toyotaguard which I didn't want. Dealer says he has no control over that. (Yeah right!) It's either accept and pay for that or go back on the list. At this point I'm happy to get basically the car I wanted for MSRP.

Order a blue one from Stevinson Toyota (Denver, CO) in late April. I was #118 on the list. Now I'm down to #11!! :multi:

Am I going to have to name this car? Or can it name itself over time?

    I live in San Diego.

I put my name on the list in August, '04, and at that time was told it would be 18 months, as I was something like #280! (Kearny Mesa Toyota) I wasn't in a hurry, as my present car (a '93 Saturn SL1), is running fine. Anyway, I checked and learned yesterday that I am now at #145, and they are getting more than 20 Prii/month now. I believe, and the salesman concurs, that it will probably be another 7-8 months. But that's a lot better than the year or more I was expecting to be told.

As for color or option package, I'm pretty open. I'd prefer anything other than black (it does get hot here in S. CA, most of the time, anyway; also I'm told black can show dirt more readily)--no offense to those of you who have black Prii--they do look sharp!

I'm told many of the Prii that come to S. CA are package #9 (or whatever they call the loaded one now...6? 495? Q-47?). I don't really have a package preference, although #9 looks like a lot of fun.

I ordered my Prius from one of the largest dealers in San Diego on April 14, 04. I ordered the package #9 - now called BC - and am still waiting.
I have requested that it not be the red, black or the tan/gold color. As of a few days ago I was number 28 on the list so am expecting to see a car sometime in November.
