This is a tragic story and I don't mean to make a joke of it. Obviously the former Vice President’s son has some problems and he has been in treatment in the past. I just found it interesting that he was driving in a Prius going over 100MPH. I don't own a Prius yet (purchasing in the Fall), but I didn't really think it was a car that one would feel comfortable cruising at 100 MPH...?

Perhaps some of your owners can comment on how stable the vehicle feels at 100MPH?

Also – what type of fuel economy do you get at these speeds…?

We have some open stretches here in Texas where the speed limit is 80MPH – what kind of fuel economy do you get at that speed range?

    Thanks for any information-

    Brent

Here in WA the speed limit tops out at 70, so no one ever goes 80... but if they did, in the '05-'06 they'd get 37mpg on hilly terrain, 38mpg on flat, with 2-3 people in the car. Fully loaded (3 adults, 2 dogs, cartop carrier, rear-cargo box) at 80 they'd get 33-35 on hilly terrain and 37 on the flat.

100 mph in a car while carrying drugs.

Put him in jail for being terminally stupid.

It handles much better than an 88 Camry SW at those speeds and FAR better than any truck I've driven (came from Alaska and everyone has 4wd there). Can it compare to cars actually designed to cruise around that speed? No way. Is it totally fiesable if you're used to those speeds in other passenger cars? Definately. I'm not advocating such speeds, but if you're going to do it then I don't know that the prius is any less qualified than other passenger cars.

One more disclaimer, doing 100 with a strong gusting crosswind in a Prius is notably more suicidal than in most other cars. It's just too light to shrug off big gusts.
