I'm the proud owner of a 2007 Prius. I've had it for a couple of weeks and just love it.

I have run into a small problem I hope you can help me with, though.

The smartkey function (that which opens the car doors after I touch the driver side door handle) stopped working yesterday. Everything else associated with smartkey is working fine.

I matched my bluetooth telephone to the Prius yesterday...could that be the problem? I also used the black button on the front door yesterday and I'm wondering if that could have caused this.

Thanks for any advice. I am really enjoying this forum btw.

Have you checked the black button under the steering wheel to make sure it's in the correct position (I forget whether it needs to be in or out)?

My best guess is that you accidentally switched the SKS function off. There is a small button below the steering wheel, kind of near your knee. This allows you to shut off SKS, which you might want to do whn leaving the car for more than a couple of weeks, and some people like to do when turning their car over to a valet (though personally I never let a valet drive mine.) Anyway, check to see if it got shut off.

Using the black button on the door handle to lock the door would not cause the SKS to quit functioning. This is how you are supposed to lock the door.

There is the most minuscule possibility that your fob battery is defective. You can check this by seeing if you can lock and unlock the door by pressing the fob buttons.

    Good luck.

i had the most frustrating problem with my smart key. it would work to start the car. the fob worked when i pushed buttons. the SKS button was on.

yet, when i pushed the black button it would just beeeeeeep for 2 seconds. this means the key is in the car or car is not in P. my car was off, the doors were shut, it was in P and it would not work. i held the key out away from the car and still not work.

THEN a bolt of lightning came down and i was inspired with the solution. my dealer put my spare fob key in with the owners manual and paperwork which i just stuck in the glove box. so it was my spare key that was keeping the smart key door locks from working.

    duh.
