My butt-wiper remote broke... now I have to manually turn the butt-wiper arm for it to function. It's really more effort than regular old manual butt-wiping, but I spent all that money on the darn thing, so I have to use it.

If I count garage door openers, the homelink in my Prius, and my 2 wireless mouse+keyboard sets (of course mouse AND keyboard are counted separately :) ) then I have maybe 13 remotes total. 14 if I could count my wife too, since I tell her to do stuff, and she does it, therefore acting remotely on my behalf :D (I hope she doesn't read this... I'm her remote, really)

I had no idea. What do you people possibly do with that many, other than play hide-and-seek? I think we have 4. (TV, VCR, DVD, and computer.) Five if you count the key fob for the car. I won't go in to the philosophical ramifications of counting myself as remote, at least not before I've had my coffee. :)

In use, 2, one for the bedroom and a Harmony remote for the living room. The Harmony is now like $89 at Sams Club...

Now for the OEM remotes in storage, that would be a different story...

Crestron does cost a pretty penny, but its oooooh so nice.
Luckily my husband programs/installs them for a living, so we get our system gratis for 'testing' purposes. ;)

For reference, this is the rack in our basement. That pictures a year or so old, but not too much has changed. We now have a HD DVR box in there, a new ARQ with a bigger HD, and a new XM reciever.

We probably have 4 or 5 crestron remotes in the house loaded up with the programming for our system, but they all do about the same thing. The multiples is just so we can control different rooms without having to track down one remote. We have an MX-3000 that we primarily use in the TV room, and a few other 2 ways kicking around in the living room. We also have one of the TPMC controllers you can browse the internet on if I felt like it, but the connection is a bit sluggish.

We got this one early model 32-ish inch Zenith LCD HD TV sitting on one dresser, & for the life of me I can not get ANY brand of all in one remote to sync with it's on-off function (all of its other functions are good to go though), so the HD box and the zenith remote both have to be used. So much for convenience of all in one.

Then there's the bathroom in the master bedroom. Built in flat screen in there, and the overhead remote sky light. Do I really want to bring the universal remote upstairs, each time I go in there?

    hill,

Have you tried any of the learning remotes? There are several out there that let you point the OEM remote at it, press the button the universal doesn't emulate and the universal will read the IR codes.

What do you need a TV in the bathroom for?

I don't even have a TV in the bedroom. I use the bedroom to sleep. I don't have to explain what I use the Bathroom for.

I think we're way to TV obsessed. I mean, I watch when I'm at home. But they now have TV screens at the check out at the grocery store. Overkill. And when I gas up there's a TV on the pump that works as long as I'm pumping gas. Again. Not necessary. Anyone might look at this and have a pretty good case for a decadent society.

Two. One for me and one for her. They both control:

2 HD TiVos, 2 ReplayTVs, 1 TV, 1 DVD Player, and 1 AV receiver.

My remotes (of which there are a total of eight througout the house are all One For All JP1 programmables.
(Translation -- all eight of them together cost me less than the Pronto, however they did take more work from me to program.)

I do have about thirty remotes in a drawer that are no longer needed.

    My Dear Hubbs corrected me.
We have two iRobot Roombas... so, there's 2 remotes (I think of them as 'scheduling thingies').
We also have a CD player in the bedroom with a remote (I rarely use it, so I forgot it existed)...

So, we really have 7 remotes.

Are you kidding? I would love to have one! Never miss a minute of the game. I dream of the time when we have TV all over, like pictures, and you can just keep watching as you walk around the house...

(am I kidding? Not sure myself...)
