Yo - I now have 194/168 bulbs in the fixture over the driver/passenger seats - and I managed to barely squeeze a 31mm festoon bulb in the dome light over the rear seat.

But now I've got a real problem - the little, tiny, small, insignificant LED in the TRUNK. Took a small screwdriver and pried out the fixture by inserting the blade on the switch-end of the fixture. It ALL comes out, and you have to first unplug it then take off an internal gray plastic cap to get to the bulb. Bummer. . . .

Anyway - unless I go in with pliers and severely bend the contacts (nope, no way) I can't get one of the 31mm festoon bulbs to fit.

I really need a slim, 28mm bulb. But I can't seem to find one!

Anybody - I've tried Autolumination and v-Led, but so far nothing. Any help appreciated!

I know that Darell did a custom job.

I've got one of Darrell's trunk lights and it's great.

There is no LED in the cargo area as the car comes from the factory. And as you say - the bulb that comes with the car is definitely not up to the task! There is no (commercial) drop-in replacement that will be significantly brighter than what is there, though you should be able to find a cheap Chinese-made festoon that will fit if that is what you are after. If what you want is high-quality and bright, I know of nothing on the market that can compete with the dome fixtures that I've made (and no, I don't just say that to pat myself on the back!)

Mine had a wimpy incandescent bulb, looked like a sick firefly. I ran a couple strips of 12 volt cool white LEDs, wired them to the dome light circuit, now it looks like I have a four foot fluorescent light in there.

Good suggestions, all - but - I've decided just to leave the li'l thang alone.

I've Velcroed two Sylvania DOT-it 3-LED lights onto the hatchback - and when I open it I just press the two lenses, and they shine down, nice and bright, on the cargo area. Simple solution - for me, anyway! (see pic in More Trunk Light in the main Prius forum)
