Dion Phaneuf is a talented defensemen with the Calgary Flames, so although Robbert has a very high statistical likelihood of being a direct relation, he is not alone, and in good company.

In Mercer County, NJ there are Council members who run on the same ticket.
Faye Ball & Jack Ball - no relation and Donald Cox
Their posters say, Vote for Cox & Balls. I am not kidding.

The best last name I've ever heard is Crotchfelt. I still giggle like a 12 year old when I hear it.

There was a representative from (I think) New Hampshire named Dick Sweat.

I saw him on TV at a convention in '92, and I almost choked when I saw his name pop up on screen.

Why not just go by Richard? Or Rick? Or Richie?

Just stumbled across this old topic....

I'm probably the youngest Peggy out there (just turned 23). I was named after my aunt and her friend who missed my entrance into this world by 15 minutes after driving 4 hrs to be there. Aunt Kristina + Friend Peggy = Peggy Kristine. However, my parents claim that they had already had a liking to the name Peggy... but had just never decided on a girl name in time for the big day.

It was a horrible name to have when I was young, especially because I was a slightly chubby (i.e. Piggy). But there was never another Peggy in my class, let alone the whole school! As I am getting older I have a greater appreciation for the name, I still rarely run into Peggys (I usually hear, "My grandma's name is Peggy!).

And it will sure be a perfect grandma name for me someday far off in the future :)

And I can never remember if Elliott Ness' (from The Untouchables) middle initial is 'A' or 'P'...
    :)

..or am I off topic somehow...?

I have 2 nephews under the age of two.... one from each side (my brother's kid, and the husband's brother's kid)
    Aidan and Jaden.

Thankfully they live on opposite coasts.... but I KNOW I'm destined to be the aunt that "Never gets their name right."

Jaden is due for a little brother any day now (due date mid-july).... and here I was foolishly thinking there were no good *den names left.

I went to school with three kids named Freakus, Wayout, and Farout. Another tip - Pay attention to your last name, people. If your last name is Jones, don't freaking name your kid Jim, or James.

Another 'unique' name... My friend is a elementary school teacher and told me of this one...

Little boy with a name pronounced "Shi-theed"
    any guesses on the spelling?
    "Shithead"

You've got to REALY hate a child to give them a name like that...

Too funny, and too true. I work with newborns and can't tell you how often I see these names. (Although I like last names as first names, i.e. Cooper etc.) But the Aiden Caiden (esp. twins..yuk) so so over used. Often names follow popular TV shows. I just saw my first Sanjiah last week, no doubt the first of many. I see brand new little Peyton's EVERY DAY. Another completely overused....Kai. And every variation of Jayden possible. Not that they're not all fine names, but sooooo overused.

My Dear Hubb's first grandson is named after the ship he served on in the Navy...
I was given the masculine form of my first name, rather than the feminine *sigh* ... and it has an accent mark, so I'm really named badly, according to the OP.

My sister was born on March 17th. Stop a moment, see if you can correctly guess her name.

Patty. That's exactly how it is on her bc... Patty.

I once dated a "Bill"... not a William, he said his father was adamant that if they were going to call a child something, then why give them a different name? So, his bc says Bill.

Does anyone remember Senator Hogg (Texas) who named his daughters Ima & Ura (although very wealthy, neither one ever married as I recall).

I almost choked when I heard Brad and Angelina were going to name their child "Shiloh"

Can't believe they didn't see a problem with a child named "Shiloh Pitt"!

    Well you are rather misinformed...
Aiden is some BS made up derivative of Aidan...gaelic for fair headed one..and is a BOY's name.
Saint Aidan was "the other" Irish saint...he actually evangelized part of Britian to catholicism.

While I agree many of the aforementioned names are stupid AND trendy...I would rather have ALL of them then to name my kid William Jefferson Clinton.

I can just hear the banter that would happen if some guy named Richard names his son after him. You have Richard Sr and Richard Jr. What do you think they'd be referred to at family gatherings?

Once many years ago, I heard this one from a friend who was a school bus driver. One of his colleagues wanted to name her about-to-be-born son "Dorkus". When he questioned her judgement she whined "But it's a good Christian name!"

This is a wonderful thread -- I'm glad it got resurrected.

I know a young woman who worked in a hospital recording the names of the new babies. When a baby girl soon-to-be-named "Vulva" came to her attention, she had to do something. So, she visited the new mother, had a friendly chat, and then said, "What an interesting name you've chosen. What made you think of that?"

The answer: "That's my mama's name."

So, the young woman left without saying anymore. I guess that means there are two females out there going by the name of a private body part....

At least they could've used 'Mulva,' like on Seinfeld.

Funny, reminds me of when I was a kid; every boy who had any Scandinavian blood in him was called Eric (which means, 'the conqueror').
