Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

I purchased the 7 yr / 100,000 mile warranty for $985.00.... no hassles, prompt service. I chose to get the warranty because I am a high mileage driver and the technology is so new. Normally I reject any extended warranties as a rip off. Thanks to Danny for setting up this discounted purchase and thanks to Troy at Greenfield Toyota for selling this warranty at a reasonable price. We need more like him!! :D

Sorry, the Toyota Extra Care plans will not cover you in Puerto Rico....at least not the plans that are offered here. They may have separate policies that can be purchased from a dealer in Puerto Rico.

How are you able to offer the Toyota Platinum Warranty below any other dealer's cost? Is it a third party warranty?

It is not below dealer cost, it is above. It is not a 3rd party, it's the genuine Toyota Platinum Warranty. Read the entire thread of satisfied customers.

Picked up my Silver AM 2005 vehicle yesterday. Showed what is offered to the finance manager at Priuschat.com. After a brief hesitation, the finance manager matched the $985 on Priuschat @ 7 years/100,000 mi. Now the dealer must explain to Toyota why they must sell the Platinum Warranty at less than MSRP.

Nah, they don't have to explain that to Toyota...MSRP is exactly that "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price", the key word being suggested. A dealer can charge whatever they want, either more or less. If they charge less that just cuts into their profit margin...Troy is offering this good deal on the Platinum Warranty with the attititude that they can make more profit by selling many at a lower cost, vice selling a few at the larger profit margin. This is a win-win for you and Troy's dealership. They sell a bunch of warranties and still make a good profit and you get a good deal on the warranty. Toyota gets what they charge the dealer no matter what, so they aren't really concerned if the dealer charges more or less than MSRP.

Hi Danny and Troy.... Thank you very much for the efforts you have put forth. I, for one, sincerely appreciate it.

I do have a question. Through my own ignorance, I was not aware of the pre-paid maintenance plan and will be going to the Toyota dealer tomorrow morning for my 15k maintenance. Do you think it is worth my purchasing the prepaid maintenance at this point? Can I even do it?

One last item. I have a 2004 Prius (package 4) and love it. This morning I purchased a 2005 prius (package 5) for my wife and will be taking delivery of it in two weeks. The dealer told me that the warrenty will be 1,600 and I told him that I could get it for 985 (thank guys). He told me to come in tomorrow when I drop off my car for maintenance and we can 'discuss' it...... lol.... You bet we will discuss it....!!

I really appreciate all of the information you have provided through the forum. Keep up the great work!

Is the extended warranty still available at $985? If so how do I get it?

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

We just took delivery of our new Prius on 10/25/04. We purchased the 7 year/100K warranty, which I believe was called the Platinum warranty. The dealer gave us a sheet of paper showing the cost for the warranties, and the 7/100K warranty was $2100, which we paid. I noticed that someone posted that the retail value of the 7/100K warranty is somewhre in the $1680 range? Sounds like we got double screwed is that is true.

Do you think there is any recourse with the dealer? Thanks, LW

You can easily cancel it, tell them where to put it, then get it for $985 through PC :)

Toyota publishes their suggested retail pricing right on the Toyota Financial website, here is the link to the Prius Extra Care Suggested Retail Pricing

Got my Prius, finally! Love it. Told the dealer about the quotes here and he begrudgingly matched prices (they charged 790 for a 7/75/0 extended and 570 for a Priemium Maintenance Plan, for a matching total of 1360 and to make their bottom lines look better)...

    Thanks for the competition!

Got my Prius 9 days ago with the 7/100k extended warranty at $1860. Thanks to stumbling onto this excellent forum today, I just left a message with the finance manager at my dealership inviting her to match the rate found here or I'd cancel and go elsewhere.

    Thank you for being here!

Hey! I'm in the "got ripped off on the warranty club" too!

I was told at the time of buying my awesome car that I couldn't buy the warranty later, but could buy it then and cancel later if I changed my mind.

So I'm curious: is that lady a crook? Or have terms changed on the new '05 priuses? I bought mine about 2 weeks ago. A lot of the posts I read seem to have come from '04 owners.

For instance, she also said that there were no other warranty options offered from Toyota on the car, only the Platinum edition with 0 deductible.

Did I get played like a fiddle? This was my first car purchase. Luckily I didn't buy the 1400 dollar clear coat option or the 5000 dollar tires they told me were going to be added to the car. Those were obvious enough.

But I'd like to save some money on that warranty if possible.

    Thanks!
    -Philip Smith
