I'd really like to see some stats. Were they able to run with a pit stop less than the other teams? Did they use less gas? Was acceleration out of the corners better. Was brake temp/wear reduced due to regen braking?

And, most importantly, did they have an EV button!!

Probably had an EV button, plug-in recharge, and unlimited character display for the Sirius.

considering the fact that this car is a hybrid i could only imagine the amount of gas saved during deceleration

I pre-ordered a 2009 Supra at my local Toyota dealership last year. I would be more than happy with something like this.

    I hope its a plug-in too :)

408 hp Volta powertain in it? More questions than answers. :D

Edit: NM, this Supra has V8. Volta had V6.

So I gather you race for a specific amount of time and whoever has the most laps wins?

I would think a hybrid would easily win since it would have less pitstops for gas.

I would like to see a comparison of pitstops and of mileage.

    Hi Evan,
Thank you for the racing stats update during I was out.

    http://www2.neweb.ne.jp/wd/tms/tokachi/index.html
They saw 10% improvement on the fuel economy and brake pads wore a half than expected.

I thought the Supra is a parallel hybrid, but they said they did EV only pit-start, then the engine fired later for further accelerating.

That's amazing...10% increase in FE is huge in a race like that....imagine one team getting 10% better FE in a NASCAR race (granted the oval isn't going to have the slowing/acceleration pattern of the course the Supra won on), but that's just a tremendous improvement in a race like that.

10% better fuel economy and 20 laps lead? Awesome!

Capacitors? Interesting. Are they significantly lighter than batteries? Can you tell us more about them?

Wow. This hybrid is a completely new animal. The 150 kW electric motor is mounted at the rear axle. The electric motor is not slapped next to the engine like in Honda IMA. It seems the 150kW electric motor is behind the transmission. Gas Engine -> Transmission -> 150kW motor -> Rear Wheels. IMA set up is like Gas Engine + 15kW motor -> Transmission -> Front Wheels.

Front two wheels also have in-wheel motors. This setup basically make the Supra HV-R four wheel drive electric car! All four wheels can be powered purely by electric power alone. In this racing set up, they are powered by the capacitor pack for a short distance. This explains the EV mode usage reported earlier.
