Ok now! I have had my prius for 3 months now. It's an 06' model. I was wondering if anybody out there has the same problem as me (or maybe, i am not use to the hybrid lifestyle yet). Sometimes when I am at a stop like, my engine starts to chug a lil', like it's going to die. It does it until I take off. Or, if I am at a drive way, and my vehicle is on Park, it will do the same. Is this normal? Should I get this checked out? And since I bought this car used, it's still under warranty, right? :(

Well, in those situations, the system is getting ready to shut down the engine. It does tend to stutter sometimes before quitting. If it's warm, wait a few seconds more to see if it shuts off. It seems to be worse when the A/C is on. Extra load on it, I guess, due to generating the extra power.

Hi TeePee. There is a lot more going on in a Prius than a non hybrid as you can imagine. However the engine is a engine. One of two things come to mind. First, under certain circumstances when the prius engine shuts down it does it with a shutter - sometimes more perceptible than others. That would be normal. However, have you ever shut down the engine of a car by turning the key off and the engine continues to try to run (in a very rough manor). Its usually a matter of fuel and ignition. Thats not normal but it can be fixed. Your best bet is to have another prius driver experience your issue or just bring it to a dealer to find out whether you need a bit of tweeking. Doesn't sound to serious though. Welcome to the world of prius. There are many really smart folks on this site that can help with most problems. I am sure you will be hearing from a few. Good luck. Greg

Run a tank of the next higher grade of gas through it. See if that helps. Not necessary to run it all the time, but I find that an occasional influx of higher octane helps.
