I scratched up my rims while parking, doesnt the factory warranty or the extended warranty cover replacement? I don't see it excluded from the list.

No warranty covers damage caused by you. That is what insurance is for. I doubt it's worth turning into insurance either. Finding a used one on ebay or something is your best bet.

I'm importing a Prius from the US to Canada. Would it be possible to buy the discounted warranty? Does it cover Canada as well?

    Tnx!

Pop them off and clean the wheels underneath them good with soap and water and see how awesome they look!... I reallyl prefer the wheels underneath to the covers.

If you scratch those, you can buff it out or for serious scratches.. even sand or dremel them out followed by a buff... just like dealing with any aluminum wheels!

There is "no" gas mileage difference that I can see.

i found prius chat after i bought... and boy was i one of those taken... i did both extended warranty for $1745 and prepaid maintenance for $1575 Putnam in burlinagame, ca. I never realized I could negotiate them. fortunately i can return them within 60 days and be fully refunded if i don't hit any of the mileage milestones (that won't be a problem).

THANK you for negotiating a fair deal.

Whats involved when selling your Prius and you have both, the extended warranty and the maintenance package? Are they both transferable? Is there a cost in doing so?? thanks, Norman

You should get a refund right away. They might charge a 25.00 cancellation fee, or something like that if you wait too long. I just sent an email to Toyota (TFS) and they cancelled it for me.

Who did you call, TFS or the selling dealer? I suspect it was the latter, because the information that they gave you is flat out wrong.

Yes, the PriusChat offer is for the genuine article from TFS.

I thought extended warranties provided by "Toyota Financial Services" were usable at ANY Toyota dealer? Dealers get to pick and choose which TFS products they recognize? Am I naive to assume this?

If they do refuse, they are refusing "toyota's" warranty... not anything else.
When you buy from them, "they... the dealership" is not underwriting the warranty.. toyota is... there should be no difference unless they want to not honor Toyota.

That would be absurb, they get paid the same hourly rate nevertheless... if they turned someone away, it would only be because they don't want any business and are overwhelmed..... you don't want that dealership anyway.

Hey everyone. Just purchased a black 2007 Prius with Package 5 from Toyota of Santa Monica. Bought the extended warranty for $2300, knowing that I could shop around and cancel. This morning I faxed the dealership to cancel.

I haven't quite made up my mind on whether to buy the extended warranty or not. I want to get a sense for how many miles we actually put on the car every year so that I can decide between the 6 and 7 year platinum warranty.

Also, I'm kinda hoping to hear from people who bought 2004 and 2005 models as to whether or not they've had problems with their cars that would be covered by an extended warranty, and if so, how much those problems cost to repair.

Anyway, I'm glad this forum is here--it made shopping for alternative extended warranties a lot easier.

    Thanks!

Ugh!! My warranty was up in December of last year. I was planning on buying the extended warranty before then, but decided not to. Now I've decided to keep the car for another two years. Is there a way to buy a warranty now? The link to Toyota in the first post doesn't work. Thanks!

hi everyone.... I've been a lurker for quite a while.... I love my 2007 touring...

I got it in 12/06, and want to get the toyota platinum extended warranty soon. So, has anyone actually filed a claim with either Troy's or Danny's warranty? I'm presuming toyota warranty is a toyota warranty, and it will be honored at any dealership? After purchasing it, are you automatically in toyota's system, or do you have to bring paperwork along everytime you file a claim/need a repair.

I am lured by, yet apprehensive, of the discount from the MSRP.

I purchased a honda with an extended warranty years ago, and had to drive to the original dealership (in the bronx-nyc) to get my sunroof repaired with the warranty.... Long island dealerships refused to honor it.... has anyone ever had an experience like that, or was it a fluid transaction with your local dealership?

Thanks so much for your help....
    Sher

It is not Troy's or Danny's warranty. It is underwritten and issued by Toyota Financial Services which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan.

Was that a plan which was issued and underwritten by Honda or was it an after market extended warranty?

Well, I didn't know for sure who underwrote them, which is why figured I wrote 'troy and danny', although I believed Troy worked for a dealer, so I suspected his was toyota's, but Danny's...
I thought Danny's warranty was not toyota affiliated? I didn't know that warranty shack actually sold manufacturer warranties.... I presumed it was an independent insurer.... That's good to know... thanks for correcting me!

As for the honda, this is what I was trying to recall... It was years ago... I was only in my early 20's, so these details would fly right over my head, especially since the warranty was not purchased by me, and rather was transferred when I purchased the car from the previous owner. I believe it was purchased at the time of the original car sale, but that isn't helpful at all in parsing after market vs honda corp underwriten...

basically, my original question was to confirm whether these 2 plans are indeed underwritten by toyota, and if one wasn't, was it a reliable underwriter....
    Thanks for clarifying!
    :)

    Hi:
I just bought my Prius 2007 on July 15,2007 and paid $1400. for the prepaid service agreement when the finance person insisted I would void my warranty if I took the car elsewhere, etc. When I got home and read the maintenance booklet and saw she had been lying, I called and cancelled. I made them fax me a copy of the cancellation letter to the credit union. I was told I had 30 days to cancel anyway. However, I now find out two weeks later that it could take a month or more for them to cut a check at Toyota and get it to my credit union.

Don't know if this has been answered before and I don't want to read over 800 posts on this tread. This is my question:

Does sales tax apply on the Prius Extended Warranty from Toyota of Greenfield, MA if purchased within MA?

If sales tax does apply within MA, will it be charged if purchased from another state?

Thanks for any information on this.

I have no idea if sales tax is assessed on the extended warranty when purchased by a MA buyer. I did not have to pay any sales tax, MA or CA, when I purchased it from Troy.
