WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats called for a perjury investigation against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on Thursday and subpoenaed top presidential aide Karl Rove in a deepening political and legal clash with the Bush administration.

"It has become apparent that the attorney general has provided at a minimum half-truths and misleading statements," four Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote in a letter to Solicitor General Paul Clement.

In response, White House spokesman Tony Fratto said, "Every day congressional Democrats prove that they're more interested in headlines than doing the business Americans want them to do. And Americans are now taking notice that this Congress, under Democratic leadership, is failing to tackle important issues," he said.

MJ Here: Isn't that 'special'! The republicans have been in the majority in congress for ?? 13?? years, accomplished almost nothing worthy of note and now that the democrats are in the majority for, what? 6 months, battling an uncooperative president and stonewalling opposition party, they are accused by the nincompoops of doing nothing? Lies, deceit and dishonor are the only thing the outgoing party has to offer.

ahhhh, political bickering at its finest. It's a race to the bottom of the barrel here - it's not a question of showing that you're better than the opposition, but rather that they're worse.

Perjury by the Attorney General isn't an important issue?

And...isn't Arlen Spector involved in this somewhere? Isn't Spector a....Republican?

None of this matters, the Dems are toothless. The message from republicans to Americans is, "Crime Pays". So, as long as it's ok for the executives to shirk the law and turn justice on its head, then the skys the limit baby.

Yes Specter is a Republican, maybe the rare one with a conscience?

Would I like to see an impeachment or two, you bet.

Do I think it will happen, nope.

Junior will just pardon this ilk in 18 months from now.....word!

And yes, I'm a Democrat...thats considering changing my voter registration to Independent. Because the Dems are toothless.

in the meantime, the skies the limit baby.

Is their a correlation between poor spelling, poor grammar and poor thinking?

Your question as written has its "slip" showing. Or perhaps it's a self-answering question.

I believe I read somewhere that poor spelling has less to do with intelligence and more to do with poor organizational skills. My brother's spelling supports this hypothesis.

Okay, so in a hurry I misspelled "Ineffectual" I'm not conceding that the grammer of the post was inapropriate to it's setting. If this were an article or essay for publication, I would be more precise. It isn't. It's a post for an internet forum about cars. Please don't take it personally, but I just don't take as much time on writing of this sort.

All of that aside, what's wrong with my logic or argument? Why should Congress be wasting time on something that they can do nothing about? Principal? Thanks, I'd rather have control of Congress and the White House. We're more likely to be able to make progress along the lines of our principals then.

And what crime did Gonzalez commit?????

Firing Federal Prosecutors - nope impossible to be a crime

Perjury - Why, because he said the meeting involved a national security program and Congress wants to know if they asked Ashcroft about the "TSP" program. So you have Sen. Leaky asking bad and leading questions trying to get his sound bite answer and you have Gonzalez (who admittedly was evasive as hell and not making it easy for Congress, but F them anyway they have a 9% approval rating!) giving him broader answers, but when you actually listen to the questions and the answers by Gonzalez and Mueller you will find that there were no "lies" told.

Well I'll be sure to get th memo about te TPS reports right in my Congressional testimony with the Bob's!

    grammar

    Principle.

A principal is the head of a primary or secondary school.

"A principle signifies a point (or points) of probability on a subject (e.g., the principle of creativity), which allows for the formation of rule or norm or law by (human) interpretation of the phenomena (events) that can be created. The rules, norms and laws depend on and co-create a particular context to formulate. A principle is the underlying part (or spirit) of the basis for an evolutionary normative or formative development, which is the object of subjective experience and/or interpretation"

I have to watch "there, they're, their" and "your, you're".

I also have trouble spelling neccessary.

Then there are just the typos.

Oaky, okay, already! You all found my secret weakness - Green Ottercreekite makes me unable to spell.

Let me point out that poor spelling is not the same as poor comprehension - I do actually know the difference between the two homonyms in question, I just apparently can't spell them.

You know how I remember? The Principal is your PAL.

Now, can anyone suggest an easy way for me to remember whether it's eating or eatting?

And to the original poster....it's perjury.

I do too. I don't know why that word always gives me trouble, but when I am typing it comes out wrong 90% of the time.

That's a good summation. Consider that even if it came to impeachment and conviction for a specific crime, the Bush-friendly Supreme Court would simply overturn it.

Consequently, if it's not possible for Bush or Cheney to ever be impeached and convicted while in office, then Bush is free to pardon/commute the sentence of any of his pals that end up being convicted of anything. So Alberto Gonzales, Josh Bolton, Harriet Myers, Karl Rove, et al, don't have a thing to worry about, and they all know it. C'mon, Congress! Bring it on! Subpoena away! Get a conviction! We've got an iron-clad 'get out of jail free' card!

Yes, the sky's the limit. Except that it all makes a mockery of the US Constitution.

My laptop is going on about 7 years of heavy use. Often errors I get from the keyboard being so worn out turn out accidentally fixing my spelling mistakes without my know it. I try to make sure to go back and put them back in before hitting send so the liberals on here have something to brag about in finding spelling errors.

As for the congress... This is both perfect and very much on track with what was widely predicted in the 2006 election cycle. The Dems are going to win the house and senate and then run as fast as they can to 'getcha' on pretty much everyone in the executive branch of government. Fast forward to today...

They're doing it... It's like eating too much at thanksgiving... they know they don't want to do this, but they just can't stop themselves...

Side note, does anyone see the dems going hard after William Jefferson and his 90G's in the freezer? Didn't think so, they're too busy parsing Gonzales statements.

Back on track... As widely predicted... The dems are going to totally anger the public with this crap before the 2008 election cycle gets into the heat of next summer this time. What could be more perfect than a short minded, short thinking public only being able to remember that the dems suck and are not getting anything good done in washington?

    Sweet!!!

They don't need to. The FBI is doing just find. You'll find the Dems aren't protecting Jefferson or in any way obstructing the investigation. Curiously, it was the Republicans that tried to stop the searches when this first hit the fan. Republicans defending a Democrat? The only thing reason I could think of was that it set a dangerous precident and they didn't want to be next.

What the heck are you people talking about?

I'm still trying to figure out what a "Pergury Prove" is [thread title], and exactly what it would do to, or how painful it would be for Gonzales.

    Poor organizational skills???
For some, I think it's more a sign of heavy drinking or marijuana use.
Why else would someone want a "Pergury Prove"?
