Looking for a little advice.

I'm in Northern California, where Priuses seem to be extremely common (to the point that I've stopped paying attention to them on the roads). It's been my impression that it was always possible to get a Prius for MSRP; in years past it just meant hopping on a waiting list. Of course, there were those dealers that were happy to sell to you for more in exchange for you getting the car sooner. And then there were the people who were selling their 04s and 05s for more than a new 06 would cost, buying a new 06, and pocketing the difference.

When I bought my car in February of this year all the prices I saw were under MSRP. The advertised prices were only about $1000 or so off, but pitting dealers against each other brought me to around Edmunds invoice. I know people got better deals than that in March and April because of some $2000 benefit Toyota themselves were giving, but it's my impression now that demand has caught back up to supply. Also, I would expect supply is now becoming limited because of the upcoming 08 model year.

I couldn't say for sure what things are like in your neck of the woods, but it doesn't hurt to try. At the very least, find some local dealers' websites, send some e-mails, and see what happens.

 

I suggest renting a Prius for at least a couple of days so you can try it out in normal use. Some dealers will apply at least part of the rental toward a purchase. Read through www.carbuyingtips.com. As mentioned earlier, once you buy one the only regret will be that you didn't buy it earlier. Once you have it, come back and ask about the mods.

You may be able to in some parts of the country, but in MO & KS I would say you're going to pay MSRP. In the last several weeks I've talked to EVERY dealer in MO & KS searching for a Mag Gray #6 not already spoken for. Each dealer would only talk MSRP. Maybe if you were capable of writing them a check on the spot for the full cost they might give a little

 

We just bought a month ago and chose to go new mainly because the price differential between new and used seemed to us too little to warrant buying used. And you can, until Sept 30, get a 787 dollar tax credit by buying new.

With respect to MSRP, all the Prius' at the nearest dealer were spoken for, and we were told "No deals". Well, we just presented the deal we were given by one dealer to another dealer about 15 miles away, and he took 500 off the price. I think we could have found something cheaper if we'd been willing to drive a little further out, too, or been tougher bargain hunters, but we were too excited about it, and too busy at the time. Still we ended up with a package 5 for only 700 dollars more than a package 3. And the Nav system is well worth it.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that there had been $2000 taken off the MSRP this year from last year.
