Privacy with Bluetooth

I don't know about the scannrers, but I can tell you about an experience I had using blue tooth. Recently I was visiting my daughter. We stopped at an ATM and while she was out of the car I called my husband. When she returned to the car she had a funny look on her face. She couldn't hear my side of the conversation as the window was closed, but she could hear my husband loud and clear from outside of the car.

 

i don't know that about bluetooth, but pretty much assume that my conversations are being listened to or recorded somewhere down the line.

To quote the classics, "Well, you can't blame British Rail for that." You can't blame Bluetooth, either. You couldn't hear how loud the phone was playing the incoming audio over your left front speaker, but your daughter could. That's my guess, anyway.

Kenny, the Bluetooth messages are encrypted and not detectable by normal means beyond a short distance. At least that's what I tell myself when I want to get some sleep.

One privacy issue I have encountered is when you have a passenger in the car and you do not want them to hear the whole conversation. Is there an easy way to disable the hands free from the touchscreen or is that only available from the phone.

 

Maybe in that situation you should just say you will call back later as you are busy.

 

I've found that if I answered the call by pushing the talk button on my T610 phone, then the call isn't passed through to the car over Bluetooth.

 

Bluetooth is very short range and requires a "handshake" between devices to establish connection. The real issue is between the cell phone and the tower. That can be intercepted and decoded passively by a knowledgeable person relatively easy. Pretend you're talking on a CB or a walkie-talkie. You give up privacy for convenience with cell phones.
