Hey all--this is my first post on here. I was chatting the other day with a friend about wanting to lease a Prius, and he informed me that he was pretty sure you can only buy, not lease, a Prius. I checked on the Toyota website, but details on leasing are pretty much non-existent. Can anyone help me out with this?

Also, can anyone give me some advice on the Prius vs. Civic Hybrid? I'm new to the Hybrid scene, and any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Prius & Corvette owners have one thing in common--we love our cars. The Prius is a mid sized car than can carry an amazing amount of stuff. Reliability is high and expected maintenance is low. Real world fuel economy is 50mpg which is very dependant on how and where you drive. Check out both at www.greenhybrid.com. There is no hybrid tax credit on a lease.

Yes, you can lease a Prius. The issue is however that most outside banks will not lease ANY hybrids, but Toyota Financial will lease them.

these are all true, you do not qualify for the tax rebate with the lease, and many banks have quit doing leases at all not just on hybrids, mine however is through Toyota Motor Credit and it was an advertised deal this past March.
I felt much more comfortable with a lease at the time. Being a hillbilly, I am very familiar with working on conventional cars and I also love technology, but being that I do not know anyone else who had even driven a hybrid yet alone worked on one, it was more peace of mind that if somehow it became a pain in the butt, its gone in 3 years. I am not surprised that the car has been exceptionally well engineered. I will no doubt buy it at the end of my lease. The Prius is also the first Toyota that I have ever driven as well, and I have never loved a car as much as my Prius.

Yes I know its an old article but it just goes to show you that many banks have slowly been getting out of this business for a while now.

Mine is a 48 mo. lease. I have always bought (cash) in the past but we had to buy another car just six months earlier. Plus I figure when the lease is up, if I liked the Prius I will want the next generation one, if not I will be ready to get rid of it.:)

This is a bit off topic, but I was surprised to see my friends pull up in a rented Prius - from a regular Car Rental joint - at a wedding recently in Wisconsin. Brand new, 2007, black! Pretty cool!

Looks like the original poster has yet to return...

My credit union offers lease terms on a Prius (and the hybrid Honda)... I leased my last 2 cars through my credit union, so I had to check, when I was shopping...
As it turned out, I opted to buy, rather than lease this time.
