Hope you don't have the passenger seat squeak issue. Or a cheap floppy center console. If you get more than a 45mpg average per tank, count yourself lucky. You don't need to know what the engines coolant temperature is or what the rpms are. Not to mention the poor dash lighting or non adjustable steering wheel lighting. At one time I used to love my Prius too.

 

Mine is a week old today and I still love it! Have fun with your new car. (and ignore the crabbies!)

 

half a million people can't be wrong! Welcome and after 65,000 miles I am still in awe of and love my Prius. We've two in the family so I love both our Prii. Best car out there. Period.

Enjoy the lower emissions and higher efficiency. No other car can do what the Prius can. None. You chose wisely.

Yes, ignore the crabbies. And solve two problems by sleeping in your Prius. Seats down, two air mattresses, the back window gives a great view of the stars, and you can set it up to run the AC all night. Don't know if that's recommended during the break-in period, though.

 

Congratulations! The percentage of people that love their Prius is in the high 90s. You could give someone a billion dollars and they would find --something-- to complain about.

I'm assuming that you have wireless internet at your house and are using a laptop with a wireless card in it writing this post. You haven't actually gotten out of it yet have you? To look at it maybe ...

We've had our '07 package 3 (with bluetooth, no NAV) Touring model since December (06 of course). I did get our Prius up to 51.4 mpg but then it got hot and we are down to 50.3/50.4.

Note that during the winter we got in the mid 40s for gas mileage. This is because the ICE (internal combustion engine) has to warm up and also warm up the catalytic converter for cleaner emissions.

Also note that your Prius will get around 25 mpg for the first 10 or so minutes until the ice warms up and then the less hills and stop and go traffic and speeds over 65 mph the better your gas mileage will get.

Contragratulations. If you enjoy your Prius half as much as my wife and I do, then you'll be more than satisfied with it.

 

Welcome and congratulations on you purchase. The Prius is not the car for everyone (who could tell?!) but it IS the car for many, and most of us that buy one are both pleased and satisfied. Not only is fuel efficiency so much better for most of us than can be achieved with comparable vehicles, but with low emissions and the knack of teaching us rather less stressful driving techniques, it's also capable of making driving more fun, more relaxing, and much less of a chore than before.

You'll find plenty of people prepared to criticize your choice, but honestly, the worst thing I've found with my Prius is that it makes driving anything else seem very dated and inefficient!

My seat doesn't squeak. Lots of folks' seats don't. The center console suits me fine. It seems to suit lots of folks. I'm getting considerably more than 45 MPG. As do lots of folks. The dash lighting is more than adequate. And apparently is for lots of folks. The car isn't perfect: I and lots of folks would like to have more instrumentation and brighter steering wheel controls. Every car has its imperfections.

But after 19 months, I still love mine. As do lots of folks, for 19 months, twice that, or even thrice that.

Connie and Tom, congrats on your purchase. And congrats for not letting those who seem to thrive on negativity rain on your parade.

Please ingore the (rare) unpleasant individual. Everyone here is really happy to welcome you, happy about your new car, and often have specific and useful suggestions if you have a real issue. MANY of us get well over 50mpg - do a little research on Pulse and Glide (often refered to as P&G in our posts). I personally average about 48mpg, but I have some pretty big mountains on my commute.

Take a quick browse through the modifications forum - great stuff like how to turn off the annoying reverse beep. Enjoy, and welcome!

Glad to hear the NEWS, you will even love it more each day.
We purchased ours in March this year already have 11K miles and the Love is still there and will be for many many years.( until a full factory EV comes out again)

We do not have the seat squeal or other things people rag about.

As the rest have said, Ignore the nay sayers and be happy that's what matters.

Good to hear about the great buying experience at your local Toyota dealership too.

 

Congratulations, I love mine. This is the first new car I have not had to take back to the dealer for little things. I just went in for the 5000 mile check up and had no complaints. Nothing is loose, squeaking or causing any trouble. I use the bumps and indentations, not the lights on the steering wheel. There is always room for improvement and I think that's the idea behind new model years.

Read the manual!
Warn your service technician not to put in more than 3.5 quarts of oil during an oil change. Tell him that you will check the oil level before you leave, and then do it.
Use the A/C on hot days. This keeps the battery system cool and working optimally.
