I've exported my Prius bought in the US to Spain. To get it registered here, I need for a technician here to make a rubbing (yes, like from a gravestone) of the chassis number, and I need to know where it is first. Does anyone know where the chassis number is? It's not just the VIN that's on the dash, it's engraved into the unibody, probably somewhere underneath the vehicle. It's the 2005 model. Cheers; Kirk.

On the black plastic under the wipers is a little rectangular piece with "VIN" or something similar on it. Remove the plastic piece and under it you will find the VIN stamped on the chassis. I can't remember if you have to have the hood open or not to see the thing.

If that does not work go to your local Highwa patrol headqtrs, they can write up a ID/OD verification form.
that will give the public vin and the police vin . that is stamped on all vehicles and they should know where to look for it also. here in MO. it is free.

Thanks but it's already over here in Spain so that's no longer possible. Besides, this technician has to be able to make a rubbing of the engraved chassis number. Sounds like the stone age to me, but that's the way it is.
