    Greetings,

Probably more simple than most mods - I'd like to have a little container to put small amounts of trash into. I don't eat takeout in my Prius, but occasionally I will have the clear wrapper from a piece of hard candy, or some such small bit of trash. The ashtray on my old car was used to hold these, and emptied every 3 months or so when it got more than half full.

Don't have anything like that on my Prius. Don't want to duct tape a bag to the dashboard, and don't want to use the cupholders or the map drawer as a trash bucket.

Are there any products out there that have an OEM look (or even an actual OEM item,) that can hold a few pieces of paper, kleenex, etc., and are fairly easy to remove and empty?

    Regards,
    aeronaut

There is an OEM ashtray that fits in one of the cupholders.

I have a little trashcan that sits on the hump in front of the center console. I don't use the secret drawer much so it works for me.

How about a small cardboard box that fits in the secret compartment?
You probably can even make one yourself.

I betcha there are plastic Kleenex box covers , the small square size that fits in the back of the center armrest console with the back cupholder down. Get one of those, turn it upside down, put some cardboard or other board in the bottom. Put in space behind console.

Then figure out where you are going to put your Kleenex ™.

Auto Zone, Part Source, O'Rielly, etc... All sell little ash trays you can put in the cup holder. They should be < $5 give or take.

I have updated my mod list on my signature file to show how I addressed this problem:

At PepBoys I bought a small black trash can, about 4inch by 6inch and 6inch deep. I then took two strips of the hook part of velcrow and stuck it to the bottoms (long side) The velcrow hooks will grab the carpet in the hump in front of the secret compartment just fine. If you need to empty or get in the secret compartment, just pull it loose. The cost was about $3 or $4 and I had the velcrow hooks from another project. Simple and functional.

Zen beat me to it. Some people have reported - and I haven't tried - that a standard square Kleenex box fits very well in the console drawer. Perhaps you can cut the top off a Kleenex box to make a little cardboard box. If you have plastic shopping bags, you can use them as liners. If done up right, it might look pretty spiffy.

Take pictures for the rest of us to use as inspiration.

My Prius has the "bisque" (beige) interior, so I got a small plastic-lined beige nylon fabric bag with velcro close and velcro strips from Wal-Mart (auto section) and attached it to the passenger's headrest. Works nicely, matches the color close enough and isn't expensive.

I have a nylon car litter bag that suits the purpose nearly perfectly. It's weighted and Velcroed at the bottom so it stays put on a carpeted surface. It has a lid. It's small enough to fit on the floor hump in front of the console. Only problem is that I have to move it to open the drawer at the bottom front of the console, but I don't keep anything in the drawer that I need to frequently get to.

Having said that, I'm not sure where you might find it to buy it. The only place I've ever seen it in a bricks-and-mortar store is the local car wash. I haven't searched on the web for it.

EDIT: I just found it online.

The kids in the back seem to think the door handles are perfect for candy wrappers and tissues. Or the cupholders. Or behind that little fold-down armrest. We very rarely eat fast food, and even then, never in the car. At least while I'm in it, miserable tyrant that I am. ;)

Robin from Prius Hoods is now making a leather garbage bag with the Prius logo that is designed to be velcroed to the plastic area on the hump in front of the secret drawer. Looks like there should still be room to open drawer. I jsut ordered it, will let you know how I like it. For the back seat, I do what others have said, just a $6 bag from auto store hooked over headrests. Kids learned real fast to use it if they didn't want a very mad mom!

ps also ordered the console cover, armrest covers, mfd shade, and fob covers. Hope they are all good.

I feel like such "white trash"... I have a plastic grocery bag, attached by its handle to the rear cupholder, so that it is dangling behind the front seat. I can easily reach back and stick tissues in that. It also holds Starbucks cups (when we don't have our regular travel mugs with us).
