No good, some things are not going to work - use MP3 mode or SAT mode. On the first set of DIP switches, MP3 mode is UP/DOWN and SAT mode is DOWN/DOWN. See what you like best.

Installed...need to tighten things up a bit, but it is working...except for the Artis, SOng and Album info is not displayed. I am using a playlist...I set the dip siwthces to MP3 mode...not sure what I need to do.

*EDIT* Figured it out...set the dip switches to SAT and now I have Artist and Title...yay!

If you're happy with SAT mode by all means use it. Check the PM I sent to you a little while ago about making sure text works on MP3 mode as well if you like.

Thanks for all your quick answers and support...I got it installed and everything seems to be working fine. The only issue I have, has to do with the little storage box just below the stereo...I wanted to keep my iPod there...I found directions, however my drill bits are not long enough and I don't know how to remove it. I bought grommets for the hole but no DICE (ha). For the time being the iPod is in the glove box. I also think I may have slightly stripped the bolt above the white box...no biggie...it is pretty tight with a little give but so far no issues...as for the number on the back of my DICE unit...54.

    Here are some shots...

I was really surprised how easy it was to install...at first I was afraid my hands were too big and that i might screw something up...but in hindsight, as usual, it was easier than i thought.

I just need to RTFM to figure out how to scroll through playlists...I have been a stickler for Smart Playlists since day one and have tons of them...because there is no support for playlist text I guess I will have to select directly from the Ipod at this time...hopefully there will be a fix sometime down the road.

For an Ipod novice I'm really pleased with my DICE so far. I think I broke the bottom pin on the white junction box as it now flops around loosely (probably need to secure it if it starts rattling...I'm a freak about rattles).

I do wish the playlists showed up on D2 though b/c I've got 50 or 60 of them so far and it'll be a pain trying to guess which one I'm on. Thanks to Nick/Vagabond for the quick call back when I thought I was having troubles.

Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer. Read this thread for my solution to the "problem":

I read that, I'm pretty new to the Ipod and it scared me a bit, wasn't sure what I was getting into with that. Maybe I'll take another look when I've got time to study it as it would be nice to have a solution for the playlist thing. Right now I'm in the K.I.S.S mode!

First of all, kudos to the PriusChat shop. I had my DICE in hand before a week had passed after my order. In fact, I was just about to enter the tracking label when the post man rang. Well done.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(noelty @ Jul 12 2007, 09:24 AM) </div>
<div align="left">I went through the trouble of disassembling the dash and then drilling from behind the storage box. I do not own a 15/32 drill bit, so I used a 7/16 bit and then, at slow speed, rotated the drill to get the hole to a size that would accommodate the plug. Since I installed my XM Radio I was able to muster the patience and courage to do the tear down and reassembly.

In the past I had used one of those cup holder platforms to hold my nano iPod. But I am happier with this new arrangement. I can finally put that little storage box to good use. When I am in DICE mode, I can see the screen light up through the smoked front panel.

I should note that I still have one more task before I complete my installation. I have not secured the DICE unit yet. I wanted to try out the MP3 dip switch setting (if memory serves, down-up-down-down) before putting the unit out of sight and hand. My display is like noelty's above here. Although I have playlists, all I see is the artist's name repeated for the number of songs when I am in the list view (sic). I suppose I need to spend time with the manual, too.</div>

If I'm not mistaken the DIP settings for the '06 are the opposite of what you said...iow I think they're supposed to be up, down, up, up....but double check, don't take my word for it.

<div align="left">Yes, sir, I had it exactly backwards in my post although not in fact. Which is a good all things considered. So my memory did not serve me well. Thank you for the correction.

I have a new question, but first the background. The DICE is working to my satisfaction so I took the next step tried to secure the unit next to the big box of wires to the left (as you gaze upon it) of the glove box. What I found is that there was not sufficient travel for the glove box. There was some interference. So much for that idea and the velcro strips that went with it.

I found that I could stash the unit in the compartment immediately above the bottom glove gox and behind the top glove compartment. That had been the resting place of my XM Radio cable, so I stuffed that cable above the DICE unit and that seems to keep both in place. That hidden tray is not flat; there are ridges and so I cannot get a clean velcro attachment in there. It feels snug and in place. The bottom glove box now travels without impediment.

Now I must ask if I am inviting trouble by doing this? I would rather have a firm attachment but I cannot find a good place to get it. For the time being this works. But I am open to suggestions on how to improve this. Thanks in advance for any clever ideas.</div>

Has anyone put one of these in an Australian, base model 04 Prius?

People are still interested in buying these buggy things? Caveat emptor.

I have to agree with this statement...I installed mine in July and it worked fine for about a week or two...now it does not list the track on the MRD and I cannot use the steering wheel controls to scroll through the play list...it is a headache!

New here. Just got finished reading a good part of all 28 pages of this thread. I'm having problems with my dice unit that I haven't seen in this thread yet.

I installed my unit on my 07 prius w/ navi, with all dips in the default setting (all up). Music played but no text.

I read about how everyone was setting their dips to up down up up. I did that...pulled the dome fuse...put it back...now text comes up, but it comes up saying "DICE" for the song, artist, etc. Ocassionally the artist or title will say "VOL: 69" or "VOL: 70".

Ok...what's going on?! This is really odd.

    Any help?! :(

Unfortunately I've gotta add mine to the list of buggy units. In my '04 with NAV and CANView I first noticed that the NAV was not giving turn by turn directions. It would plot a route fine but I'd never get any more instructions after "proceed on the highlighted route".

Then about 3 days ago CAN-View started acting up..mostly freezing on a page and only intermittently and apparently randomly updating.

Upon unplugging and leaving unplugged (a quick unplug/replug didn't fix it) NAV and CAN-View are working perfectly again.

This is really unfortunate and I'm going to have to decide what I want to do here. I certainly like the convenience of seeing the song names on the MFD and I use the steering wheel controls some (mostly for skipping songs in a shuffle I don't want to hear), it's hardly worth it if it's incapacitating the rest of my system. (Nav and CanView).

I'd hoped that all the early generation bugs had been worked out, but apparently not. I'm going to plug it back in tomorrow and see how it goes, but I'm not feeling too optimistic at this point.

Update...after reading the directions a little closer, I pressed DISC 5, which "selects the ipod source", and then selected disc 1 and the correct info displayed. So now I'm attempting to understand the logic of this device...

How do you view a list of artists?! I was under the assumption that I would be able to select an artist from the screen...If I still have to use my ipod for that, I would have been fine sticking it out with the simple "AUX input".

This may be a stupid question, but has anyone been able to figure out how to NOT make this thing autoplay when I get in the car?! I just fires up the first playlist...and frankly...I don't want it to!!

On mine it either plays the first song on the first playlist or the first song of the last playlist I listened to before plugging it in. If it's left plugged in, it continues from where I shut it off.

Nothing can be done about that. It's a side effect of the syncing process. All devices like this will do this.

Anyone have any idea if the DICE will work with the new 6G IPods that are coming out next week? I have a 30gb 5G Ipod now that I would like to upgrade to the 160gb 6G. Any information would be great.

Also, to add to the weird behavior the DICE unit does, mine does all the same things reported above. I can't even cycle through artists. I do all my music choices with the IPOD itself and put it back in the glove box. Oh well. It's better than using the plug in the center console and a lighter changer thing. I always would forget to turn off the IPOD with that setup. Aye.
