I know some of the older members get frustrated when they see the same question being asked over and over again and usually reply with, DO A SEARCH, but I've done "the search." I wasted hours with "the search" and not only didn't I find anything useful, but it got even more confusing.

I contacted all of the the companies people have listed in older DVD related posts about getting the stuuff I need to be able to watch DVDs on my navigation system and NO ONE has anything for the 07 Prius.

Only one company came back with a positive answer (not that positive). They said I can be their guinea pig... They've a new model they THINK will work on the 07. I'd have to pay someone for the couple of hours work to install it and it might not even work, so if it doesn't, I'd have to pay someone to take it off, then return it. I'm not thrilled with the idea.

Bottom line, has anyone installed what is needed to watch DVDs on their navigation screen of their 2007 Prius?
What exactly do I need to buy and how much did the installation cost.

    Thank you!!!!

Maybe I'm missing something here, but WHY would you want to watch a DVD on your MFD?
Shouldn't you be watching the ROAD when you are driving?

    OK,
First, watching DVD video while driving is illegal (at least in CA). CA law requires an interlock installed for DVD video if the screen is visible to driver.

That said, our Prius NAVI box (under driver seat) provides video signal to the MFD when the "Map" button is pressed.
That is how some older models ('05 for instance) owners installed their back-up camera.
    See old thread here:
    http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=11753&hl=camera

A device such as Soundgate can take two video sources controlled by two trigger wires. Usually one is used by backup
camera (therefore triggered by the backup lights). The other can be triggered thru a switch by the the ground/power (depending on switching high or low). By pressing said switch, you can select the 2nd video source,
which can be from a portable DVD player.
That way, you can watch video (or TV, if you have a tuner) by pressing the "Map" button on MFD then the switch.

    Best,

Thanks, I emailed Soundgate. I'll let you know how it turns out.

If anyone else has any other suggestions, shoot!

All of the solutions I have seen involve converting the DVD video into a compatible format and feeding it into the backup camera input. I know at least one member has done this, plus there was another member that installed a computer using the MFD as the monitor.

I may be misunderstanding the question (there is a first for everything B) ), but isn't this close to what CoastalETech's LockPick is supposed to do? http://www.coastaletech.com/lockpick3.htm

Just run a quick search on Coastal here before you buy, many users have been less than impressed by their support.

Now, your choice of laws to break aside (not my problem, and then again poorly written/intended laws abound), I ran across a good mod on a Tundra which you may find interesting for what you care to accomplish (and more, this is beyond what lockpicks from Coastal seem to do). The post is here:

    http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/audi...ainment-system/

The question is of course are the two NAVs sufficiently similar to allow a fair and easy applying of that solution to a Prius.

    Hope this helps,
    Snowflake.

Yes but then you need an aftermarket DVD player.
