ok i am srry for the bad grammer and spelling in this but i can bearly see through the tears rite now. i am 15 years old and getting my drivers license soon and i want a prius sooooo bad becuz they are good for the earth and really really cool but my dad wont let me he says "FOREIGN CARS ARE FOR F(word i wont say b/c i respect the dignity of all ppl)" ugh he is so mean and a bigot and stuff i cant beleev im related to him.
he and my stepmom want me to take his old vehicle a 2003 FORD EXCURSION and if that isnt bad enuff its a diesel and i know how bad those are 4 the environment with the particles and stuff. he went out and bought a ram srt10 to drive sometimes when he doesnt want to drive his big stupid escalade.
whats worse is that my mom wont back me up. :( she says the prius is too tiny and would be unsafe in a accidnet. it was a fight 4 her to get her new mustang but my dad gave in.
my dad just wants me to be like my brother and stepsister too much and i hate it. he has nothing to do other than drive around to all his stores all day and yell at ppl and spend money on stff that hurts the Earth.
so plz tell me stuff that i could tell my dad so he can MAYBE stop being such a fascists and let me get a prius instead of his big stupid earth breaking truck.

ps i will tell you more if you ask please dont ignore this thread i need help.

showing him a crash test video of his truck would be a good start (I'm sure YouTube has videos) then compare that to the Prius (also on YouTube)

take the free car, get a job, buy the car you want when you can afford it. Be thankful you get something for free. Push your luck on this one and you're likely to end up with nothing at all.

If you want to then show them how serious you are about saving the planet then only drive the excursion only when absolutely necessary and, instead, ride your bike, even in inclement weather, to prove your dedication. When you must dive the Excursion fill with Biodiesel.

There are times to push and times to back off. To me this sounds like a great time to back off.

OK, I'm gonna give it to you straight. You are a spoiled brat. No 15 year old kid has any right to demand a $25K vehicle from their parents.

Now I can see that despite that, your heart and mind are in the right place in terms of doing for the right thing for the environment and that is a great start. So I'm happy to offer some advice. If your father is offering up that Excursion to you, take it. I know it is horrible for the environment but I presume that if you turn it down, it will just wind up in someone else's hands. One way or another that thing is going to end up being driven by someone. But here's the catch, only drive it when absolutely necessary. Show your parent's your commitment to the environment by continuing to ride your bike, catch rides with friends, or even use public transportation whenever practical.

Do you have a job? Start saving now! Combined with what I assume is a sizable resale value for the Excursion (check on edmunds.com), you may have enough to buy a Prius on your own (maybe look into a used one) in a few years just in time to head off to college. Good luck!

Edit: Oops, I see that I inadvertently echoed most of Evan's points above. I was composing this when he posted; didn't mean to pile on. But maybe hearing the same things a second time will help.

ok im going to reply to both bc im not sure how to use all this forum stuff its really confusing.

he says that the internet is full of lying communists and that youtube has a LOT of them so he doesnt believe anything from it
itll be hard getting by with my bike bc i live 10 miles from school in the country. i hate my school so much. its full of people who want to be like my dad and own own own own instead of care.
i could get a job at 1 of his 17 mcdonalds or the pizza place or the pep boys but that would be what he wants.
