So I looked up the info on free parking in Cali and it says, that you can park without paying at the City of Los Angeles parking meters. Well what does that mean? Will I get a fine if I park in the City of Beverly Hills or any one of the many independent cities which comprise Los Angeles?
I doubt anyone here would know for sure, but it's worth a shot.

I don't have any first-hand experience, but from what I've read on here, only the city of LA qualifies for this program. So, if Beverly Hills is not part of the "City of Los Angeles," (which I don't think it is), you would get a fine for parking at that meter without paying. Some people have complained about this in previous posts, but it does appear that "City of Los Angeles" really means "City of Los Angeles" and not any of the other independent cities.

This was brought up at the LA meet up yesterday. Remember that after December 31st, 2007 you will need to have a California clean air sticker. Until December 31st you can park a Prius, Escape Hybrid, HCH, or Insight without a sticker. Here are a couple maps which may help you figure out what part of LA is the City of LA, and if anyone knows of any simpler maps that'd be great.

Also, here are some other good Los Angeles parking tips: http://lacitynerd.blogspot.com/2006/03/5-p...ips-for-la.html

Oh, and one way to tell where you are is check the street signs. I can't find a good example of an LA City sign online right now but here are Santa Monica and Beverly Hills street signs:

LA is a state of mind. LaLa Land. I'm an Anglo, born in East LA. Don't there very often these days, since I live in the Peoples Republic of Orange County (one of the few Democrats here), and the drive is like seeing a proctologist. I did teach for 35 years in LA, and survived with most of my faculties (pun intended) intact.

My Prius can find its way to LA, but fights me all the time.........

Note: There is no free parking at meters that are operated by the Port of Los Angeles!
