I'm almost an official member... that is... by having my Prius... I've named her "Pria"

Dealer expected delivery Tuesday, Aug. 7th, but the car didn't get to the dealer until today Friday, Aug. 10th... What a terrible thing to wait... I'm trading in my Highlander so it's a welcome change!

Any recommendations for window tinting places in the Southern California area, specifically Pasadena area? I've read the posts and people seem to be recommending a place in Culver City, but it's a little far.

Also, where do you get the center caps? Where can you order them?
Thank you so much for all the useful information. This forum actually convinced me to get the Prius rather than the gas-guzzling Acura RDX.

Okay, gotta head out to pick up Pria... maybe I'll post pictures pretty soon.

I never understood why people tint their windows, why are you so afraid of other people being able to see you?

It reduces the need to run the AC in the Summer. Pretty simple.

Perhaps not wanting UV rays to ruin your interior over time? That's one use.

Perhaps not wanting UV rays to damage your skin over time? That's another use.

Perhaps not wanting to cook yourself in your car? Here's another one.

In California it is only illegal to tint the windshield and the front side windows.

A lot of people get away with tinted front windows though as long as they are lightly-tinted. My salesman at Toyota of Pasadena recommended VIP Tinting at Sierra Madre and Alta Dena in Pasadena. Anybody in here have experience with this place. He said they do very good work... not the cheapest but top notched quality.

Finally got my Pria!!! As of 4:35 p.m. yesterday, August 10th. Drove her off the dealer lot with only 1 mile in the odometer, and now I'm close to 100!!! I think I made the right decision trading in my Highlander for the Prius!

Wondering what your experiences are with mpg during the first couple of hundred miles... I've noticed that its steadily increasing... Also, anything I should watch out for during the drive in period?

(I hope "Landy's" next owner takes care of him... awwww!)
    [attachmentid=10531]

When's the next Southern California Prius gathering??? What exactly do you guys do during the gathering???
It'll be neat to meat at the Rose Bowl area, and then caravan through the Arroyo Seco section of the 110 freeway!!! It will look like the attack of the Priuses!!!

Can someone post the link for last So Cal gathering?

I'll post pictures of "Pria" pretty soon!!!

Prius window glass already absorbs a large fraction of UV. But yeah, tinting does help keep the interior a little cooler.

Uhh, from a dealer? Is this a trick question? :_>
Why are you concerned about them?

My first tank I only got (appx.) 40 mpg and that was highway driving! then i checked the air in my tires and it was 36/38 psi so i immediately increased to 42/40 and the next tank was much better, though still kinda low. my first seven tanks saw the mpg gradually increasing, especially as i'm learning how to drive for more mileage.

i think mine is finally starting to level off, but i hear reports of an increase at around 5000 miles so i have another month or so to go before i get that...

my recommedations for the first few hundred miles: accelerate gently, brake gently, and drive it like a normal car before implementing various techniques so you can see the impact each technique makes.

    Um . . . not quite the whole story . . .

    (d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:

    (1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent.

    (2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.

    (3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays.

    (4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company certifying that the windows with the material installed meet the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the installing company and the material's manufacturer by full name and street address, or, if the material was installed by the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material's manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material installed according to manufacturer's instructions meets the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the material's manufacturer by full name and street address.

    (5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall be removed or replaced.

As always the usual distortion by SPE.

Clear, colorless and transparent is by definition not a tint.

Here is the complete code section and a related section, not just a few provisions out of context:

Center caps... I'm thinking of removing the wheel covers on the Touring... some people have posted pictures of their Touring with the wheel caps off, and I sort of like the look. I've read that once you remove the wheel covers, center caps are needed!

HOW MANY TOURING OWNERS ACTUALLY REMOVE THE WHEEL COVERS??? I think it's a matter of taste OR it depends on the color of the car whether it looks good or not...

If you have removed the wheel covers from your Touring, how is the procedure done? I don't have much experience changing/rotating wheels, and I'm wondering if its easy or not. Do I need to take the car to a tire shop???

Of course, I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning towards removing them...

MPG... after almost 200 miles, it has gone up to about 45... it's slowly climbing... I hope it keeps doing so.
I'm curious how many miles I can get before I reach empty on the tank.

    Thanks in advance.

I can't help it if you wish to act myopic. :p

Solar Guard NR UV Clear 90 (90% Light Transmittance!) fits the bill for being legal in California.

For the Myops amongst us, you could also go prescription . . .
