Black Prius

Black was my second to last choice, but I did see one, live, at a dealer in Seattle and thought it looked way better than I imagined it would from seeing photos in brochures. The black makes the car look a bit more "sinister" or "serious" than, say, white or blue. Purely a preferential thing, I admit. Black does work on the Prius, though, while it looks wrong on an Echo or an Escort.
This one had the beige interior, which complemented the black nicely. I've been working on art that I could paint outside (I've been hand painting art on cars for years; not hippie stuff), and I thought a Japanese setting moon (about 8in diameter) against the black would be quite striking. I kept thinking that the car needed "some color".
Anyway, I decided then that I could add black to the list of colors I would accept should a black one come available. As it was, I got what I wanted (blue). Good luck, wish I had a photo of that black beauty to send you.

In spite of the difficulties keeping a black car looking clean, I went with black for my 04.

It really does look nice, and in fact it looks different from every other color combo.

The bottom rear plastic Air Dams are black on all colors. The Antenna is black, the wipers are black, the glass is all surrounded by black, the bottom front Grille is black, and the front license bracket is black.

To me, all the other colors look like they have black trim on top of the base color. That isn't a bad thing, and looks nice, but it tends to break up the visual flow, particularly around the bottom with the air-dams and around the rear window.

When the base car is black, all of those other bits blend right in, giving it a monochromatic feel that is (in my opinion) quite different from the other colors.

Hmm, I wonder if I can get "Black Pearl" replacements for the badging, hehe.

 

Sigh, now I can't help but wonder what it would look like with Black Wheels

Congrats on ordering your new Prius!

I love the Black too, it was the first my dealership had ever sold! I'm not sure why they aren't that popular, they sure look sweet!!!

I don't have a pic to post, but on my black Prius I removed all the toyota badges, filled the holes and painted to make a black hood and hatch lid w/ no insignia. I also tinted the windows 35% (the max in MA) and with the gray interior covered w/ black sheepskins it truly does look like a wraith in the night...

I got a black one last week and it looks great. I'm probably going to take it in to tint the windows next week also. Should look great with the tint.

 

I'm waiting for my black one to come in (been waiting since early December). With gas prices hitting $2.19 for regular here on the central coast of CA, I'm getting very impatient. Most people complain about how hard it is to keep black cars clean - how have you guys been doing? Hand wash/car wash?
