I love this car but perhaps it's a bit too technical for this old guy.. When I call up the Menu screen the button for "Suspend Guidance" is greyed out/darkened..I looked for a way to find "resume Guidance " in the manual but I go to the menu and I get the same screen....is there any way to fix this...or to reset the system?

also when I attempted to transfer my address book/phone numbers to the car..I followed the directions to the letter and the screen said to wait as Item were transferring...I waited about a half an hour and nothing..any ideas?

Does the "Suspend Guidance" work when the you're stopped? If so that can be corrected by cutting the speed sensor wire and installing a switch. There's also a company called Coastal Electronics, which sells a lockpick which will do the same thing.

As for the phonebook transfer, what's your phone and carrier?

It has to be actively giving you directions for the Suspend Guidance button to be active. If you press it while it's active it will change to Resume Guidance. The Suspend Guidance button is not limited by the speed sensor, you can use it if the car is moving at 80 mph if you want.

The transfering thing doesn't work too well. I gave up with all my phones long ago.

Ahh, I also have Verizon and the problem is that they have disabled OOP on most of their phones, which prevents the transfer of the phone numbers.

What I did was buy a BT non-Verizon phone on eBay and put the phonebook in that. Then I linked it with the Prius and transferred the numbers that way. I have a 2005, so I can't transfer them manually.

Correct information about the NAV system. As for Bluetooth transfer, it varies by phone. My Sony/Ericson works just fine, but many don't.

I think your question about the Nav system was answered by one of the other posters.

Regarding your phone when it states that it is transferring your numbers it also states that it needs your phone to start sending them. Using my Motorola Razr I went into the phone's menu and found that I could transfer my address book...ONE number at a time. My phone's software did not allow for my phone book to be transferred all at once. I really don't think the Prius has anything to do with this. It appears to be something each individual phone will or won't allow depending on how the phone itself is set up. Even the carrier may have something to do with this. I suggest going into your phone menu (look it up in your phone manual for how to transfer the phone book) to see if the offered setting to do this is for one number at a time. If that's all it allows the only way you will get that info into the Prius is one number at a time - tedious to say the least :(

Welcome to PriusChat, Bandersnatch! One little trick with nav guidance I frequently use is voice control.

If I'm going somewhere I don't know, I'll set the destination while sitting in my driveway. Now I know how to get out of my driveway and most of the way to where I'm going, just not the last mile, so when SHE starts telling me how to get out of my driveway, I press the voice button an give the command Suspend Guidance. This shuts her up.

Then, when I'm closer to my destination and want to be guided in, I use the voice command Resume Guidance. SHE calculates my current position (which sometimes takes a little while) and the turns to get to the destination and guides me in. I've noticed that I have to be on the map to Resume Guidance, and I think that the automatic route recalculation setting must be on, but it works through turning the car on and off.

I went to a place in Seattle recently. Set the destination in my driveway, shut her up, stopped and had lunch on the way. Drove about 190 miles without being told "Continue on I-5" a zillion times, and then Resumed Guidance.

    Don't get too frumious!
