    Hello everyone!

I know there was some interest in the installation so took some pics, etc.

First of all I was shocked to see that Circuit City had it cheaper than Crutchfield.com. ($138) I ended up going with them due to the price but also because I had a day off and didn't want to wait for the online order.
Anyways I bought the trunk kit xtreme.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Jvw8bkpQXYE/c...;search=dynamat

I did not need all of the material, I did all 4 doors and only replaced the areas that had the plastic shield to begin with. I know someone posted that they put it on the inner metal insdie the door and then also on the very far inside. Each to their own, but to my knowledge you want to block out all the holes in the door, so covering where the plastic was originally made the most sense to me.

That kit came with 5 sheets of total 20 sq feet. I only used about 3.5 sheets, so if i had to do it over would probably just go with the kit that has just 12sq ft, but I must admit having the extra was nice, so I could use bigger pieces instead of haivng to do piece meal at the end.

    Anyways a few pointers:

    1. Back doors are easiest! Do them first! You can salvage the plastic and use that as a template for those doors, works fairly well. FORGET, doing this for the front doors, way to many cut outs etc, easiest to just do the pieces and add to it.
    2. DON"T put it to far leaning into the holes in the door, there are foam things on the plastic door panels that push into them, however I put the dynamat in to FAR and then when i put the window down, it was getting held up due to making contact with the sticky side of the dynamat! GRRR had to remove the door and do that little part over.
    3. I did this on a 85 degree day, good and bads to this, good = dynamat is more flexible and is easier to work with, BAD = plastic is held on by black goo, gets messy...lol
    4. When removed the front door panels, it is a real b*tch to get the plugs off the switch console, pop it off the door, very easy just pulls up, then makes life much easier to get off.
    5. If you have the JBL system, that little tweeter in the front door, just simply pulls off straight out, I removed the door first! oh well,
    6. Oh, and definately get a little roller, helps to smooth the stuff out, I just found a cheap plastic 99 center at home depot.
    7. They suggest putting it behind the speakers, however I did not do this, wasn't planning on it, however I did have extra material. The issue I had was that the speakers were riveted into place and I didn't want to go through more work at the time. With that said I am happy with the results :)

I think thats pretty much it for the tips, I"ll post pics and since I don't know how to create a web page for this, had to do it all on here, sorry. If anyone has any questions let me know, more than happy to answer!

    OH AND THE RESULTS....

    1. I immediately had to turn down my base and my mid range on the radio. It really does make the sound system quality increase, at least I think so. All the audio shops claim it and I am now a believer. Better base and more clarity.
    2. Although the Prius is the queitest car I have ever owned, this mod makes it even more queit!
    3. It also adds weight to the doors, so for those hard core MPG guys out their, you may not like it, Howeve I love that the doors no longer sound like a tin can when you shut them :)
    4. And not sure why, but it seems to make the car seem more solid, maybe it is the fact of not having extra noise in the cabin, not sure.

    Ok time for the pics...

    Pics:

    # 1 This is the pic of the rear door with the cover off, pre-dynamat

#2 This is the pic of the rear door post dynamat.

#3 Ok, this is a pic of the tweeter off of the front door, the left side on the photo is the top of the bracket. and you can see that little black prong sticking out, well their is supposed to be a metal clip on there, it flew off when i pulled it off, have no idea where it went.

So had to get one from Toyota, good news is that its only $2 for 2 of them.

#4 Alright last one, this is a pic of the underside of the drives console from the door panel. you can see the two clips on either end (yellow) they are just the typical ones from cars, wiggle it and pull and the panel comes right off and then just snaps back in place.

OH, Thanks to Ecobunny who has a website, her site helped me to understand how to get the doors off! :)

Ok, just did a 300 mile road trip tonight, and I must say that the stuff makes a huge diference, it really made the JBL system sound that much better. The amount of base I get out of the system now is just amazing to what it was like before. After hearing how this changed just the stock JBL, it is making me want to do it to my other car which has a great aftermarket system in it already.

I think Dynamat is way overpriced. I went with SecondSkin because it's not as expensive but just as good
(if not better). And their support is great. I ended up getting the 80sqft package of Damplifier for $187.

RAAMat is another good choice (cheaper than 2ndSkin even) although I can't speak for its performance.

    Hey Zen

what do you mean by their support is great ?

I went with Dynamat since crutchfield recommended it, I actually never heard of the other brands, where did you hear of that stuff and or buy it?

I bought straight from their website (secondskinaudio.com). Arrived in a flash. Heavy though: 30lbs for 80sf, so shipping is another cost component you have to consider. They have an online forum that has some VERY experienced and knowledgeable folks, not only about SD but also car audio in general. I got most of my info and ideas there before taking the plunge. I'd never done anything like this before, so you could imagine my trepidation going in. But it's turned out to be quite fun.

As for the other brands, I learned about them through article that our fellow Priuschatter Bill Merchant posted not too long ago:

    http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

Highly recommended reading if you're interested in this sort of stuff. I listen to classical music a lot, so quietness is a major requirement for me.

I too have noticed a bit better handling since installing the mats. Maybe it's just a hallucinatory effect, or because of the added mass, I don't know. But it is noticeably real that the car is much quieter now when going over bumps and railroad tracks. Still too much road/tire noise though. Maybe I'll change out the tires when the OEM wear out enough to justify the cost.

    BethlehemPrius -

Did you have any difficulty removing the trim around the door latch/lock? I am able to easily remove the panel with the exception of this area. It looks like the top part of the trim is tucked behind the latck/lock assembly on both the front and rear doors.

    Thanks in advance.
