I'm curious. I noticed several available Prii posted, one at MSRP (the one I posted), but none of the posts have had any response. I'm not complaining and I don't feel unappreciated, just curious because there is such a shortage nationwide. Is it the distance to the dealers, or are most of the folks on the chat line committed to waiting for specific color/options at a particular dealer?
I assume that dealers can arrange to have cars shipped anywhere once they have a confirmed sale (izzat so, Dianne?) and that shouldn't add a huge amount to the total cost.

Almost jumped at the white BC, It's what we want. But we're moving next week and was concerned about the drive home to Central California through the snow. Also the extra length of time on the guarantee of smog system given in CA. Even checked the flight cost and schedule to WA until I came to my sensess. At any other time I would have been on my way to WA. My 92 Voyager with 214,000 miles on it may not last our wait on Dianne's list. jaa

Wouldn't the warranty on the smog system reside in the same state as the car resides (California) versus it being associated with where the car was purchased? I believe this question came up before when someone asked about buying a car in California for the longer warranty, but that was debunked because the longer warranty was only valid when the car was physically in California.

I believe it goes something like this:

If you have the car in California (you live there but might not have bought it there), the warranty is for 150K. Basically, you have to take your car to a California dealer in order for the warranty to be enforced. You might live in CA, but if you took your car to Oregon to get it serviced, the Oregon dealer wouldn't have to honor the CA extended warranty.

However, if you buy your car out of state, when you bring it into CA, you do have to get it smog checked ... even if it's a brand new car. Don't ask me why, but they make you jump through that hoop. As several people have posted on the YG, it's rather hard to find a "referee" to do the check (it can take weeks to get an appointment), even if you live in a densly populated area.

So there's good news and bad news in there. And then you have to balance out all that other stuff too, how far away the car is from you, do you fly to get it, drive with someone then caravan back ... is the trip so long as to involve hotel rooms ... shipping has costs and risks as well.

Jul, you are not that far down on the list now... based on their promise of higher future allocations and even more package 9 cars. :>

I thought about it. Driving there from Portland, OR is doable. But I don't want a white one.

I'm a little squeamish on shipping a car and I don't want white.

I'd personally like to be within driving distance (3 - 4 hours) to the dealership. So I'm keeping my ears pealed for any dealership in that range (and maybe a little above it) who has a package #9 in anything but black or white.

Babies! I'll take it then. :)

This is the exact car that I've been waiting for since October 31, 2003. Now watch me get a call on Sunday before I get a chance to take myself off the waiting list.

A long drive is what you are supposed to do on a new car, right?

I have vacation next week and I was planning on driving to Palm Springs, visiting, going to Las Vegas, visiting, going back to pick up friends in Palm Springs, back to San Francisco to drop off friends and then back to my house in the east bay. NOW I get to add a trip from Moses Lake to my condo in Seattle to the East Bay! Wowza. I am either love this car or hate this car after this is done.
