The Prius is a great car. I got rid of a 2003 Ford Explorer, mostly because I can get 3X the gas mileage. The on-board toys are just an added bonus.

Of course, I also enjoyed adding all the extras (see my installed options below)

Plus - "He who dies with the most toys wins!"

I'm just a youngster :D , but a LOT of the people that I see in my area driving Prii are definitely Respected Elders.
I see a few with Disabled Parking plates, too.
I can understand why... it's a very easy vehicle to enter/exit, and the reliability, safety, and economy makes it smart!

My father purchased a 2006 Prius here in the UK in April and is the tender age of 81!!
He is very active and has researched the subject of hybrids to great lengths before purchasing it.
He adores the car for his short runs to the supermarket and to his bowls club, and he travels long distance as well.
On hearing of the Road Fund cost of only £15 and the brilliant fuel consumption, many of his friends are seriously looking to purchase as well.
He is totally computer literate and would outsell any younger salesman as to the advantages of the Prius.
I also have a Prius and we love comparing notes on the car.
So is my father one of the oldest Prius owners/drivers??

I think 81 is the oldest I've seen in this thread. My 85 yr old father and 83 year old mother are sorry they didn't get one when they got their Avalon... that they say gets less than 20 mpg. They're leasing and talking about getting a Prius when the lease is up. My mother drives like she's in a car race and can probably make a Prius get 30 mpg. I had a friend that was 92 when he bought a Prius the first year it came out. He was the type of 92 year old person that would remodel his own bath and get on his roof to fix things... unfortunately he passed away 3 yrs ago :(

I'm 71. The technology is what attracted me to the car.

I'll be joining you guys in 1 year 7 months and 12 working days (yes I am counting). I have been a relatively earlier adopter (I bought the first Commodore 64s off the shelf), although less so recently. I wait a couple years till the bugs get worked out.

I got the Prius mainly because of fuel efficiency and environmental impact. I fell in love with it because of the technology.

I am in my late 50's and my isn't too far behind and recently bought our first one in March. Going green apealed to us. The technology is great but the car is so easy to drive that the tech does not get in the way. I hope to have one for a long time.

As side not when I had it for about 6 weeks I was rear-ended by an 82 year old in a 1990 GMC handicapped van. Pushed the rear quarters into both back doors and tore the bumper lose, etc.

$8200 and 33 days later I got it back.

Still glad to have one but not impressed with the Toyota Certified Body Shop.

I am 70, and I bought my Prius because of the gas mileage, then I fell for the rest of it. I had a Honda Ridgeline and the gas was too much. Since I didn't need a pickup, I test drove a Prius and that was it. I tried to find a Honda Hybrid Civic to test drive, but had no luck. From what I read now, I don't think the Honda would have been choosen anyway.

Going on 76 here and about this time last year we practically circumnavigated Canada and US--10500 miles at $580(US) for fuel. I've owned many vehicles over the years and consider our 2005 Prius the absolute best of the lot. The technology is easy to understand and operate, reliable, safe and trouble free. The toughest thing I've experienced is taking the permanent grin off my face when I'm driving.

I'm in the over 70 crowd and find our 06 has much better free wheeling (glide) than our 1954 Kaiser Darrin with a three speed transmission with overdrive. The Prius is closer to "Mexican Overdrive" that was used in featherfoot frolics years ago.

Older folks know how to drive three speed transmissions with overdrive... and perform well in milage challenges... but, some have trouble with "Prius Glide" (PG).

The solution is to drive barefoot the first hundred miles to get the feel of the glide action that takes place at the top of the "forword motion pedal" (fmp). That seems to be the magic place where hyper-milers spend most of their time driving.

Another idea is to cover up the Multi-Functional Desplay (MFD) with a piece of cardboard. Some feel the owner's manual should have a warning lable, "The MFD is addictive for drivers of all ages."

As many posts have indicated, "Just enjoy this great car for what it is."

The over seventy crowd has no problem driving the Prius. Remember, we had push button start in the 20's.

This is all in fun of course. You have found the most important information source for your future Pruis... this website. Top marks to the forums for doing a terrific job.

If you push the "Display" button, it will turn the MFD off.

I am 73 and my wife is 69. We love to drive the Prius. I have told Lily that I will not die until I can breadk 60mph, and reading all the tech news, esp, the 4 gentlemen who did the P&G record, is our favorite to study and become like them. We follow the inflation of tires to get better mileage; we stop pumping gas when the pump clicks off and try to save the flexible bladder. . .. We real all the technicla stuff that comes out.
You can tell your salesman that he is probably too old to understand us older guys and our abilities.

Please then, for your own sake, stay off the freeway as there's a good chance you will break 60 mph...

Hubby and I are both 65. The Prius is the first car that we have both agreed upon. We both love it. The technology is there, but one doesn't have to understand it all. Just appreciate it. WE love our mpg. We love the smooth ride. WE love the power when one needs it. WE love the looks of our cute little mag. gray. We love it when we are sitting at the light, using no gas. WE have lots of friends who are very interested in our little hybrid.

I will turn 65 next month. I bought it for the technology as-well-as the great fuel mileage. I like it that is is environmentally friendly but that was not a factor in our decision. My wife is somewhat technology challenged but she fell in love with it last year when my cousin got one.

I'm 72 and have always been interested in Electric vehicles and battery technology. After testing all the hybrids in Dec 04, I jumped on pkg 3 the day before Xmas. I have not been disappointed, no problems on technology. (retired elec tech). I am anxiously awaiting the full developement of a Prius plug in, with perhaps diesel turbo. That will give us Power, economy, virtual (no gasoline costs, locally) AND "clean air" Have 50K on my 05.

It seems unlikely that you'd find many people on an internet forum who can't handle technology, regardless of their age

Note that those who are over 65 frequently comment that they are fascinated by high technology. This should not be surprising. Anyone 65 or older was 34 or older when the first personal computers hit the shelves, they were 20 and oolderr when Neal Armstrong walked on the moon,a dn they were in kidnergarten or later when they first saw a television program. We literally grew up with technology. It would be surprising if 65-plussers were not involved with technology.

Ask a different question: How many on Prius Chat under the age of 31 think of the Prius as technologically advanced? My guess? They don't consider technology -- they expect it. Instead, they are focused on saving both money and the environment.
