Wow, you are 25 and you know everything. Good for you! There was some study done by the Insurance companies a while back that found: driving with your headlights on reduced the likelyhood that you would be in an accident by 15% atleast. Sounds good to me and far from "absolutely no difference" as you put it. Perhaps you should step outside your little world sometime and learn something. Perhaps the next time that you are on the road you could take a test, don't worry, it will not over tax you. Look at on coming traffic; some with headlights on and some off. Which vehicle would you notice first? Headlights on, correct. Driving with your headlights on makes you easier to see; during the day, at night or dusk, during bad weather when windows are wet and fogged, and while changing lanes vehicles are easier to see in the mirrors. How easy do you think your blacked out car is to see in any of these conditions without your lights on? Why do stealth fights turn of their marker lights before entering enemy territory?

First of all I work for an insurance agency and second of all the only conditions we have here are bright days and very warm nights..very little rain. So that wouldn't apply here, in Pa yes but not here. I never said anything that would make someone think I know everything, just stating fact. I love it when people ruin threads...good job.

Thats for sure!!! I'm amazed I didn't get run over by the FedEx truck yesterday! Loving the black Emblem!! But after you described the process, I think I'll just stick with the chrome!

Thanks. Yeah, I will never do that again. Extremely hard to sand in between the letters of the "Hybrid" emblems. I am happy with how they turned out though.

Well I just pulled my Toyota emblems off to sand and paint. I have this spray can of Tamiya model paint called 'Light GunMetal' that I think will look really close to the Mag Grey color of my car... I will definitetly post pics when it's done.

But I just started trying to sand the chrome off and it's actually, for real, chrome plated. I am only down in some parts to a layer of what looks to be copper.. What a pain, I don't even know how hard it's gonna be to get in the cracks... Well now I am committed to finish the job,

Here's some pics so you can see where the alignment pins are located on the back's of the emblems...

Front..

Yeah buddy you just started the worst project ever..lol. I swear I'll never do it again. Those cracks are pretty hard to sand. Are you just doing the Toyota symbols or are you doing the Hybrid badges on the sides too? Those are the ones that are hard to sand. Well good luck. Post some pics once you're done.

Also, what do you have planed to use to put them back on once you're done? I used the 3M Emblem Adhesive that comes in a tube instead of using the 3M tape. It was just too hard to cut them to the right size to fit the emblems.

WOW!

That car looks great! I'm envious.

In Virginia, the cops will pull you in a heartbeat if your tint is too dark.
They carry some sort of light meters with them to check the % right there on the spot.
Not a huge fine, but there's no way to get out of it and they inspect your car 2 weeks later!!

I'd like to see another picture after you pull the Synergy emblem. I know you've been pondering that.

Yeah to be honest with you I'm surprised I haven't got pulled over yet. I was actually planning on keeping the synergy emblem on. Not sure why though. For some reason I feel that cops tend to not bother the Prius :)

He's 25 and knows everything where you are how old and know almost nothing. You're 15% is way off, DRL's help to prevent pedestrian accidents more than anything, do a little reading before bashing.

BTW, you car looks great I was thinking of doing the exact same thing

If the emblems are metal, why not media (sand) blast them? Seems a whole lot easier to me.
Gotta agree however that people ought to follow the motor vehicle laws. The "cop behind me didn't mind"mentality is ignorant.

that report is now 7 years old- the opposite is now believed

Pedestrians and cyclists are generally unlit during the day so relatively will be less visible than a vehicle with DRLs. Drivers become used to seeing vehicles with DRLs so fail to notice unlit pedestrians and cyclists

As the report also found there was relatively little difference in vehicle to vehicle accidents with/without DRLs, it just makes it more dangerous for everyone else.

I agree that people should follow the laws but in all honesty I feel that their (cops) time is better spent catching speeders/reckless drivers, rapists, child abductors, etc. which happens a little too often here in Az. There are no issues with seeing my turn signals or brake lights with the tint. But how I see it is if I get a ticket for them they'll have to come off, lesson learned. Then off they go to ebay for another person to try. ;)

I'm not going to worry about the side emblems.. yet.. maybe I'll put some smoked side blinkers in place of them.

I'll probably use the same emblem glue you used. I'll check my autopart store, see if they have something good or I'll order online..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DGH @ Sep 5 2007, 10:29 AM) </div>
The emblems are plastic but they have been chome dipped, or whatever they do to get a metallic coat...

My advise is to get them annodized or something similar that they can do straight to the chrome itself...

I bought the 3M Adhesive at my local Autozone. So you shouldn't have a hard time finding some.

Looks good....actually thought about doing that to my white Prius to get that black and white thing goin like i had on my truck..

As far as doing 90 on the freeway, i lived out there for 7 months while goin to ASU East and working at Chandler Fashion Center....i was getting passed doing 75 on the 202...apparently in AZ the 65 MPH is a "guideline" or a MINIMUM speed limit not a law

I like the Knight Rider look. I would add the scrolling red light in the grill.

The issue isn't whether or not you can see the tail lights. In an accident, the insurance company will find any reason to reject the claim. They will say that the brake lights were modified and you will be siHt out of luck. The other driver will testify that the lights never came on.

It is a risk you take with any modification done to safety equipment, like brake lights.
