3G is extreamly fast. However it's only available in a very limited market area.

Friend of mine just bought an iPhone, signed the contract etc. He got, from AT&T, a $350 "rebate" that will show up on his next bill as a credit. He paid $600 up front but the phone is only going to cost him $250 plus tax. This wasn't a local incentive or anything but something directly through AT&T (Cingular)

Can you elaborate? How, exactly, did he get this rebate? They just "gave" it to him?

I agree with the person who asked how the person getting a rebate from AT&T for the iPhone got it? Did the purchase happen to coincide with the expiration of a previous phone with AT&T? Sometimes AT&T provides for phone upgrades for extending your contract. Was that the reason?

Actually 3G is about half the speed of DSL which is about a quarter the speed of cable modem.

I just got my iphone yesterday, and tried it with my DICE. It mostly works, but the fast forward and fast rewind buttons do not have any effect and powering off the radio did not stop the music on the iphone. I put in a support request to DICE about it, and they just said the iphone locks them out. I think I'll keep my nano to use in the car.

Update your iPhone, it will fix the music not stopping.

Sorry for the delay in replying - hadn't watched this thread since my last entry. Yes, I believe my friends plan expired and they offered him the discount to "reup." Still, for those out of contract, not a bad deal on a cool phone.

I talked to the VAIS folks and they said they will provide an update soon (to their product that supports the iPod) that will support the iPhone. To apply any update requires an extra $50.00 component. The VAIS product is nice because it displays the song title and CD title on the Prius screen (MFD).

I'm not sure what you are saying. The DICE unit displays the Artist and Song.

I got my iPhone today, and have been unsuccessful in pairing it.
I have gone through the process, and the car display read that the Bluetooth connection was successful. On the top right of the Prius display, it has the blue BT, and the battery strength. On the far top right, it reads "out of range", but I can sit in the car and use the iPhone without problems, so I'm not out of range.
Any suggestions of why it may read "out of range"?

    I also have a non-Prius iPhone question...
I have about 50 contacts (which to some people is not very many) on my old Sony Ericsson. Do I have to manually add each contact into my iPhone? I know that in the past, I just copied from my SIM card.

    Thanks
    Joyce

Out of range means it thinks the phone is too far away to work. Turn the phone off and on.

And yup, start typin' - 50 contacts is nothing, I have over 200, most of them highly detailed.

If you can somehow import the contacts into Outlook (win) or the Addressbook (mac), you will be able to sync the contacts into the iPhone.

    Question -

I'm thinking about getting an iPhone. Can you download audiobooks from outside of iTunes onto the iPhone? That may sound silly, but I'm just not up on these things. I download from www.exclusive-audiobooks-download.com because iTunes is such a pain in the butt.

Download the files, then import them into iTunes. Simple.

I realized what I was doing wrong, and my iPhone is now paired with my Prius.

I actually was surprised that I had 50 contacts!!!

I'm getting an iPhone and want to push my contacts into the Prius, which posters say can't be done. One person mentioned using their laptop to transfer their contacts. I've looked around and haven't found a way to do that. Will a PowerBook pair with the Prius and can AddressBook contacts be transferred that way? Perhaps with an app like OnSync? Thanks

I tried to do it with my PowerBook and couldn't. The problem seems to be that the Prius doesn't advertise that it handles the OPP protocol (which is what contact pushing uses) and the PowerBook just won't push to a device that doesn't say it can accept it.

I got an iPhone last night and deleted my old phone out of the Prius, paired the iPhone with it and found all my contacts were there, the old phone was just deleted.
