After watching the Steelers beat the Browns a commercial comes on with a big man trying to fit a new tv into his car (a Nissan I believe). Some announcer guy comes over with a microphone to the hopeless car driver and said something like "upgrading to a bigger tv? why not upgrade to a bigger Toyota?" Toyota is having a big sale on their gas guzzling SUVs! Toyota may be running a medical clinic in the front of the building, but still selling crack and heroine to anyone with money out the back door.
Toyota says Upgrade to an SUV....What happened to the oil problem? Environmental concerns? Save the world for the children... or sell them to make profit now?

Perhaps you didn't notice, but Toyota produces trucks AND SUV's. They can make and advertise a road boat for all I care; so long as they remain the leader in HEV, and in the future PHEV vehicles, I applaud them.

The manipulation of the population to buy ever bigger vehicles for ego/show/manhood/'safety'/ is ALL Detroit. Toyota is just cashing in on the stupidity, and I say more power to them.

That's fine.... you know why? Cause the more money Toyota has, the better their products and if (unfortunately) the light trucks segment is hot, then Toyota has a business case to jump in. Not all the profits from the trucks goes back into the truck (or maybe it does.. I don't know, but I like to think it doesn't). Either way, you need money to make things.

    I'm with clearview.

No it's not cool with me if Toyota rides the "stupid American wave". I prefer companies stand for something and Toyota loses credibility in my mind when they go and advertise their big SUVs with a commercial the promotes ignorance and materialism (get a big TV, pay $5000 extra for a big truck to haul the big TV instead of spending $100 for delivery and saving gas the other 364 days a year).

Americans are dumb enough without corporations helping them along with their advertising.

That said, I'm not surprised by Toyota's commercial because I've seen similar, and that's the reason I'm enthusiastic about the Prius as a car, but not loyal in any way to Toyota as a brand.

Yes, Toyota does produce the Tindra pickup that I see on TV doing a sorts of stupid Human/Truck tricks. My favorite Tindra commercial is when the Tindra owner pulls for gas and it only takes 7 gallons to fill up after going 300mi! HA HA HA I see that the Tindra falls WAY short in that performance catagory, best to look the other way when it comes to that fuel economy subject.
I did see GM's commerials that praised the Hydrogen Fuel Cell SUV and the Volt, a guide is seen showing young children what GM is doing to save the planet for them, both vehicles are vapor ware of course. Toyota chose to stand with the posers when advertising their SUVs and Pickups, was my Prius money used to pay for those commercials?

Toyota does stand for something, MAKING MONEY. That is what all corporations stand for.

That is a very broad excuse that you just rolled out requiring very little thought, even less thought than Toyota used to make their gas guzzling vehicle sale commercial. The fuel efficent and evironmentally friendly vehicle market is the next big thing to hit the automotive world. If I want a 1/2 ton pickup to work with or just to ride around in there are plenty to choose from. Now if I want a 1/2 ton pickup to work with or just to ride around in, that gets 40mpg or better, who has that product on the market?
Corporations are out to make money as GM proved when they ramped up production to flood the market with cheaper SUVs and Pickups, when rising fuel prices threatened to shrink the market. The average consumer is in such a fog right now when it comes to the definition of "performance" and what it means to them, that when they are asked to justify their choice of vehicle vs the the way in which it is used, they begin to sound like a cheesy commercial. Too many people are relying on someone else to solve our problems; corporations have been running the government for quite a while now, who else should we call to task?

    Ha, that's a laff.

The first week I had the Prius, I loaded a 37" HDTV into it along with a base for it, both in huge boxes.

They fit into the Prius just fine. You don't need an SUV or truck to haul a big TV, all you need is a Prius.

People don't know that. Hell my friends were surprised a mountain bike fit there <_< cause it wouldn't fit in their car (sedan).
