What would be the symptom of a transaxle which is failing or degrading? Also, what part of Toyota's warranty would cover a transaxle?

    Thanks.

Noise first: a vibration that seems to vary with speed and/or engine rpm. Next come error codes, which need to be read out by a scanner. Finally, the car ceases to move and only shows error displays.

It should be covered under the hybrid warranty but I'm not expert. I know the hybrid 8/100,000 mile warranty covers the battery and inverter. I'm not sure about the transaxle.

I would go with the dealer part. However, it that were impossible, I would consider some of the 'form a gasket' products that have a flexible base. But first go with the dealer part since that was the original design.

Inverter coolant leaks can be determined by loss of coolant in the resevoir. Also, it is typically a pink or light red fluid. It is a bad thing to lose the inverter coolant since that is what keeps the power electronics from melting down.

If the transaxle leak came from ground impact with the pan and visible damage, I would also consider getting a replacement pan. They are not terribly expensive compared to a failed transaxle.

    Do you have photos?

the gasket is only available from Toyota PN 30900-35168B the B might be needed but probably not. Don't pay more than $12 for it. If your getting ATF in the inverter cooling loop it can only come from one place, the PSD case. Unless some dimwit put it in the inverter coolant tank. Which is a possibility as they are the same colour.
