Extra pins for the Homelink Mirror

I noticed that the Homelink mirror connector has TEN pins, but only 3 are used! I've also discovered on an aftermarket wiring diagram that one of the extra pins is for hooking up a reverse wire (to turn off auto-dimming while in reverse).

I'm also wondering if two of the pins might be for illumination. Does anybody have a good source for the aftermarket diagram for the homelink mirror?

Does anybody have an autodimming or homelink mirror in some other car and do the buttons illuminate?

I did some research based on the FCC ID.
FCC had photos of the circuit board, but no schematics. There doesn't seem to be any illumination for the buttons.

I also did some meter readings on the pins. Many of them are connected together to what I think is ground, and two end pins are also connected together. Two pins unused and not externally tied to anything do have some resistance.

    U 1 U-X U
    ----- | -- |
    X-X-X 2 Y

Where U are the pins the Prius uses, x and y are pins tied to one of the used pins, and 1 and 2 are unused pins not tied to any other pin, but have connections to something internally.

Through the FCC site, I found this mirror was made by Gentex, and distributed by another company as an aftermarket mirror. There are several models with different features, such as tricolor LED maplights (white, amber and blue), homelink (which is what we have), compass temperature, and a few others.

I believe the extra pins are connected to circuit remnants for the maplight and temperature sensor connections, but are otherwise useless.

The generic installation instructions for the aftermarket version seems to support this, though there is one mistake on the installation manual: no constant 12V for the homelink. It is instead listed for the maplight use.

isn't a compass available on some models of homelink...could one of the pins be for that? Like a generic plug used on all models.

Right. It does appear that it is a universal plug.

I don't think the compass and homelink come on the same mirror however.

Dan, did you figure out which wire is the reverse wire?

Also, any idea if the power could be switched so that Homelink is not available when the car is off? (For security purposes?)

I have not seen that in the aftermarket install instructions. If the aftermarket diagram you have is for a Gentex, it should correspond.

Homelink is always available. 3 wires are:
Red- B+ pin 10 (for homelink).
Black Ig Pin 6 (For AutoDim)
    White/black ground pin 8.

There is a model that has compass, temp sensor, homelink on the same mirror.

The white wire is for reverse input.

    (Not present on Toyota mirror).

I finally came across that wire under the non Homelink Gentex mirrors distributed by Mito Corp.
They are all 12V+ inputs, so try applying 12V to any of the unused inputs I described above. I might suggest using a small value resistor in case I am wrong.

Is it possible to put a homelink type dimming mirror in my 2005 pkg #3 which has a boring manual mirror? Are the wires there to hook it up? If so, where would be a good source to get a homelink mirror?

    Yes.
No. You could probably get the ground and the B+ from the overhead console, but ACC will still need to be routed.
call MITO 1-800-433-6486 for a dealer close to you, or check on EBay. Toyota themselves would be another source. The mirror is made by Gentex, and they have other models with added features.
