My favorite question, and this one is very common, is: "What's the payback time for the hybrid premium?"

I usually respond by asking them what the payback time is/was for their car, and why should the Prius have to justify its high mileage when other cars are not burdened with justifying their abysmal mileage.

My Prius cost about 3k less than my sister's Camry (same model year), although both cars are comparably equipped, and gets nearly twice the mileage. That's bad?

I was getting gas, and as the pump neared 10 gallons, the attendant remarked that he wouldn't think it would take so much gas.

Me: "Well, it was close to empty."

Attendant: "This car is half electric, right?"

    Me: "Yeah, sort of."

Attendant: "Then I would think it would only take half as much gas."

    Me:

At the gas pump, this summer.

    The guy was incredulous!

He thought I had modded the Prius with a gas generator to supplement the batteries!

Boy, was he surprised. (and uninformed) :D

I didn't say anything, since I did not want to try and explain that there is no direct correlation between fuel tank capacity and MPG.

I've had this one too. I say "All cars depreciate. What are you doing with yours that makes you money?" Either that or "No, it takes regular." ;)

But a Prius is relatively inexpensive! It's less than a Camry, and a lot less than a Volvo.

It does take half as much gas.. Don't they know SUVs take in 20 gallons? lol (actually I do think some of them do)

Yeah.. in USD <_<... you try it in Canadian dollars.... (well they've lowered the price for 2008.. but look back at 04-07 prices).

This was asked to me at the fuel pump wile I was putting gas into it.

If you put gas into it how to you get electricity?

And then there are the other questions.

Aren’t you scared when it rains that it will electrocute you or others?

so what’s the big deal if I can go 500+ miles on a tank of gas in my truck.
to that I replied “but it cost me 20 bucks to go 500+ miles.” and the response came back “that’s not the point.”

talking about the epa changing the mpg numbers. “I understand that the percentage for all cars dropped the same amount but my (cant remember exact numbers) 3% is less then your 3% so im getting better over all mpg.”

    and the best one imho
why didn’t you buy a truck?
