Honestly, I'm not sure that building tall buildings and great bridges and such is necessarily the *only* way to measure the worth of a people or species or civilization.

I mean, Native Americans were by many measures an 'evolved' civilization, but that didn't have to do with what they built or created physically.

I hope you don't mind my saying, but this idea seems rooted in Western Culture...almost to a fault.

Also, our focus on the creation of infrastructure and our consequent reliance on it makes us uniquely and particularly vulnerable to attacks from those with lots less to lose. You know...those who, say, can live in a desert environment...and haven't forgotten how function without everything we've come to "need."

As far as toolmaking or whatever, in my opinion it really all comes down to the opposable thumb, or lack thereof.
    :)

To paraphrase various comedians… all marriages are same sex marriages! :D

    Why:

Because it is an expression of the human condition. And being willing to live *your* life in an exemplary way that shows the faith in *your* conviction is all you really need to make it the next level, right? Why are you judging someone you are sure will be judged by some higher power or force? Worry about your life and your impact on the world.

Besides the disconnect to all life forms as it is on display here, really shows the extend of the megalomania (hu)mans have achieved. To think that without Nature (yes I capitalize it) (hu)man would exist is foolish. I think that humans are mere vessels for bacteria and viruses, which are by far the most abundant and successful species. Never mind that they can effect the next generation by mere reprogramming the gene pool. Who is superior to whom?

    What's important ?
    A man with a woman ? a man with a man ?a woman with a woman ?
For me, the only thing is LOVE from one to another one independently of the sex.
Then marriage or not, hidden live or not : that's just to be in the rules of the society.

I heard the The Catholic church is also going to stop it's work in the adoption area, since they don't want to be forced to place a child with a gay couple. I guess they'd rather kids go to foster care than have 2 loving parents of the same sex.

If you have the chance to see Fish Out Of Water, I'd recommend it. It tackles the 6 or so out of 10,000 verses in the Bible that supposedly make homosexuality a sin.

Here's one time I will not complain about thread resurrection. This issue sadly is still with us. I say "sadly" because it is self-evident to me that discrimination against gays, etc., is a national disgrace. Who a person loves is no business of the government or anyone else. A small element of the Bible-thumping lunatic fringe has decided to ignore Jesus's injunction to love everyone and leave judgement to god, and instead single out a few isolated verses from this compendium of poetry, pornography, and fairy tales we call the Bible, to excoriate people who do no harm to anyone else, but whose choice of who to love grates on the intolerant sensibilities of said lunatic fringe. People who every day violate three quarters of the Bible's commandments, single out gays, etc., for violating one line from Paul, who himself reversed the entire thrust of Jesus's trachings.

Every single argument against allowing gays to marry comes down in the end to the disputable assertion that "the Bible is against it." If we are a land of religious liberty, then gays have as much right to marry as straights.

One of the reasons I have as much contempt for religion as I do, is the way it is used throughout time to oppress, persecute, and deny basic rights to anyone the majority takes a dislike to.

Whether they "should" marry is a decision for each individual couple to make.
