What's a good price for a package #2 Prius (Mag Gray)

Last March I bought a pkg 2 Silver Pine Mica through a fleet dealer at my credit union here in the Portland OR area. He found me the exact color and package I wanted, and my final price was $21,500. That includes his finder's fee and four years of registration fees, even personalized plates.

If you know the car you want, I would definitely recommend going to a fleet dealer. If you're a Costco member, you can go through them. It's so easy -- call or email with a request, wait for them to find the vehicle, and you're done! No haggles, no hassles. You might even pick up the car at the fleet dealer location, so you don't have to walk onto the car lot.

I purchased my seaside pearl package #2 at the end of may in Dallas. I paid 22,600 plus tax, title and license. That price included all floor mats and free oil changes for as long as I own the vehicle. I did very little haggling with the above price.
I took a basic invoice price of 20,419.00 and gave the dealer 3.5%. I added in the price of a package #2, destination charge and floor mats for a total price of 22,600.00. I hope that helps. Good luck with your purchase. I am currently getting 55 mpg overall. What a great car!

 

I bought mine last February for 23469 (700 below MSRP with floormats) minus an additional 400 dollars for my student credit, so about 23,069. Total OTD was ~24800. I dealt with three fleet managers and three salesmen and only one salesman was willing to discount from MSRP at that time. But, San Francisco is a different market, and from what I have noticed on these threads is that the market you are in can make a 2-3 thousand dollar difference based on local supply and demand. 23900 OTD sounds like a good deal to me, you might be pushing too hard to get below that unless you just get the right guy at the right time. The dealership has to make a little money. If you stick with your price point, you might end up getting it but you have to consider whether your time and effort is worth the extra 400 dollars.

 

I have been contacting dealers all over Southern California for the same car. A few have been under $22k, plus ttl. the cheapest so far was $21,735. I think I can find a little lower, though not much.

 

We got our Super White 2007 Prius with #2 kit in April for 20,995 and OTD @22918.
We were pleased with the price then and pleased even more now. It seems that the price charged
by the dealers corresponds with the price of gas. In April, gas was about 2.85/gal. There were
3 dealers advertising about 21000 for the #2 Prius. Elmore Toyota in Westminster was the
most pleasant dealer to work with and we eventually bought from Elmore. Also, Elmore is
in a phase of trying to be a "full service" dealer. They are bending their backs to satisfy buyers.
We were so excited with the price, we forgot to deal for free oil changes -- and as a good gesture
by Elmore, they gave us a free oil change after we signed the papers. BTW, the same car sells for
23750 -- sticker price and no discounts.

I'm still looking for a good price on a 2007 package #2. I was quoted $23207 from a Costco dealer and $23,049 from a non-Costco dealer. I'm north of Seattle.
Based on what Consumer Reports Price Service says, the price should be around $22,400--if you count holdback as profit and are allowing a 5% profit.

Will it make a difference if I wait (days?) until the 2008 are available.? Any help, advice, etc. appreciated. I'm excited about getting rid of a 95 Odyssey and moving into the Prius.

Welcome to the site. The 2008 line up has some different option combinations. That may be a benefit if they offer a car that doesn't have something you didn't want. Waiting for a 2008 may make it easier to get the color you want (unless the color is discontinued). If you are expecting a sudden glut of 2008s to drop selling prices to $22400 I don't think so. Right now gas prices are soft so hybrid sales have traditionally slowed. If gas increases 50c I don't believe you will find any below MSRP. Now may be the sweet spot. If you can't find anything under $23050 then buy the car.

 

Carmax.com has some vehicles that look like they are #2's based upon their price, but you'd have to call. They list MSRP and the Carmax discount price, which is about $1000 below MSRP for the Prius; however, their MSRPs are "adjusted" to include dealer advertising fees, etc., so the $1000 becomes just closer to MSRP, and definitely no where near invoice.

Package #2's are the most abundant in the midwest. Finding a #3 is nearly impossible in a base Prius.

My impression is that the 2007's are in short supply until the 2008's come out, so the dealers are not budging on price. When the 2008's are here in decent allocations which may take until November, then those 2007's if there are any left will be discounted.

This is similar to when the new Honda Civics came out. Until they started filling the lots, it was very hard to find one under MSRP. But, if you were willing to wait until a few months later, the deals started appearing everywhere.

I seriously don't think there are going to be any $500 over invoice deals on the 2008's until Feb/Mar 2008. I hope my car holds out that long. I wouln't mind finding a cheap flight to California to get one closer to invoice, but I don't relish driving a brand new car 3000 miles back to Ohio, especially if I get stuck behind some stone hauler in Missouri.

 

In the Akron / Cleveland area of Ohio a 2007 package #2 are frequently advertised in the paper at $21,900 but that is before fee's and taxes. I think the sticker price for my Magnettic Gray pack # 2 is just a few dollars more then $24,000

A lady who said that she was the sales manager at a Toyota Dealer in Cleveland (cant remember which dealership) who showed me the Prius originally at the car show back in March told me that as a general rule Not to expect anything better then about $1500 off MSRP on any Toyota (before rebates) as the profit margins are thinner because they price their cars more competitively and also added that on Scion its even thinner and to expect no better than about $500 off MSRP.

So I would say about ballpark $22,000 is good.

 

Last weekend, I bought a 2008 Prius, package 2, magnetic gray for $22,500 in Puyallup, Washington. By far the best price of any of the local Washington dealerships I researched.

 

I dont know if it is ok or not to post this on here. But I have Package #2 2007 Priuses that I am selling for $21777 plus tax and license. That works out to $23900 out the door for Sf and even less if you live in marin or solano counties. . I have about 15 left at this price. If it is not ok, feel free to pm me and let me know.

Don't know if you are still looking for an 07 Prius, but I just purchased a base package Prius (in Magnetic Gray) at Palo Alto Prius for $20,800. We worked with Michael Lu and it was no haggle, no pressure. He followed up a few days later to see how we liked the car.

April 18, 2007, we got our 2007 Prius with pkg #2 out the door for $22,090
We live in Huntington Beach, So. Calif. But gas prices in April was low - about $2.35/gal.
Right now, with the new 2008s coming, prices will not be conducive for purchasing. Also, the holidays are coming after that. So, if you can find a 2007, you may still get good pricing. There's not much difference between 2007s to 2008s. Some of the posts, such as "Lizzy" does not say: "out the door" , b/c if Lizzy got it for $20800 OTD, that is a very very good price.
