Daihatsu claims fuel cell advance eliminates need for platinum

I could not quite deke out what they were saying. I think they're saying they made a fuel cell that uses rocket fuel as the input, but doesn't need a platinum catalyst. I do not think they were saying that they had a fuel cell using (say) hydrogen or methanol, that did not require a platinum catalyst.

Makes the [mostly hyped-up] risks of lithium ion batteries look pretty insignificant, eh?

No sir, here is a comparison of Octane and hydrazine hydrate. You tell me which is worse.
And, I quote from the same site (for sake of a fair comparison)

Octane:
" Harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Respiratory and eye irritant. Typical TLV 300 ppm. Typical STEL 375 ppm. Typical PEL 500 ppm"

That doesn't sound promising at all. Getting around platinum is important for scalability/cost but this doesn't sound like the way to do that. Next!
