My passenger foglight must have been hit by a rock or something and now has a cracked lens and doesn't light up. Had anyone found a reasonable place to get replacement foglights? The local dealer said $117 for the part and $95 for labor- OUCH! Thanks for your help!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(seasidetraveler @ Jul 22 2007, 05:14 PM) </div> I got mine from eBay for about $46.00. AND, it only took me less than 15 mins to put on. The dealer quoted me over $200 bucks for them to replace one lamp! They told me that the cost was high because they would have to remove the WHOLE front bumper just to get to the fog lamps! WHAT BS! Vince.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(vinny @ Jul 23 2007, 06:26 AM) </div> The owner's manual does warn that foglight replacement should only be performed by the dealer due to the high risk of severe shock or death !!! I guess they have to cover themsevles. What procedure did you follow in replacing the light?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(2Touring @ Jul 23 2007, 06:33 AM) </div> The "risk of severe shock or death" is a natural reaction to dealer prices! Tom
Now I see the foglight on the other side has been hit by something and is cracked, but still lights up! Should I even bother replacing them? Anyone find a cost effective place to get replacements? I see many on e-bay, but not sure of the fit and quality.
oye... a magnet for rocks eh? err... I don't know the replacement cost. I don't think anyone's replaced it and had to pay for it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(seasidetraveler @ Sep 18 2007, 05:35 PM) </div> Not only is it a magnet for rocks, but they get so hot that when you go through a car wash (after having used them recently, or while they are on) the temperature difference cracks them...watched it happen!!! After replacing mine 4x's I chose not to through any more money into them and removed them all together and replaced them with aftermarket lights that you can pick up for $20 at Autozone...last longer, still 55w and cheaper to replace. Good luck!!!
sometime some guy posted a way to get at the foglight from underneath the car without having to remove the front bumper. try searching for it more
I've replaced a passenger fog. Just remove the under"belly" plastic (couple of screws) and you can access the foglight. Not the most comfortable (hand and fingers pinched, angled), but it's doable without the whole bumper removal dealer story. sorry no pics, but just look around under there and it seems to be pretty straighforward what needs to be removed. since the under belly plastic is, well, plastic...it bends outa the way, too. Cheers, Curt
I recently ordered a drivers side foglight replacement on ebay for a light that has been cracked forever. Then the first thing I notice when I look at my lights again, the passanger side is cracked too!
Yea, I think I will just leave them alone... I love foglights, but I don't wanna spend $1000's over the years haha
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(seasidetraveler @ Sep 19 2007, 11:56 AM) </div> Just out of curiosity, if the foglights go out, will anyone miss them? So far I have not had any pea-soup fog to drive in, but in all conditions that I have tried, I can barely see the difference when they are on!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Burns @ Sep 19 2007, 05:46 PM) </div> Yeah, they're really for looks rather than function.
I used them on a recent trip to help watch for animals on the road. Not much good if you're moving faster than 50 km/hr (30 MPH) though. They don't light up the road very far ahead.
