I was reading next week's description of the
West Wing and saw something that caught my eye.

Josh, in an SUV, crashes into a hybrid.

Oooh, Prius as TV star. Although it's sucks that
it's a fuckin' SUV that has to crash into it. :cussing:
Oh well, least it's not a hummer. Otherwise, I'd
have to flip off my TV while that P.O.S. was on the
    screen. :guns:

Hmm, gotta wonder what the story line is if they find it important to put it in the episode description.
    • I'm sure there are many more possibilities!

i bet its hybrids are environmentally AND politically correct and the the guy on the show will find that a big hunkin' SUV is no more safe than the Prius is in an accident IF its safe at all

The description was that Josh crashes into a hybrid, not necessarily a Prius. I'd bet just about anything that it will be an Insight.

It starts out as practically a "commercial" for the Prius with all the things said in Priuschat being said in the first 1 minute. Josh is in a Toyota showroom.

But stereotypically, Josh decides to test drive a behemoth. He is multitasking with a cell phone and bingo, loses control and smashes the Prius.

    Then fade to commercial....

Wow! Did you folks see the show?

The whole thing was ABOUT the Prius/CAFE standards.

My wife noted that they must have said the word "Prius" a dozen or fifteen times or more during the hour.

If I were in charge of Honda PR, I'd be miffed...

The actual crash was only a 10 MPH bash into the rear passenger corner. I had a similar crash in the same spot of my Prius of the same color, but more like 5MPH. My damage was about $800.

The damage to the TV Prius was 2 grand tops, and that's only because it's such a specialty car.

The positive PR for Toyota was easily worth $100,000.

It was another great West Wing, and great for the Prius.

take it back... i guess its two hours... also noticed when cruising through the online guide that even the Prius is in competition with itself as the 2nd part of Category 6: Day of Destruction, is also on.

for those of you that dont know, the guy who is the head of the local power company in Chicago also drives a silver Prius...

I think the car was a driftwood pearl. (Tan/gold)

As West Wing crosses the USA, could people count the number of times it's mentioned, and what color you think it is?

Oh and Dave, my daughter also turned me on to West Wing.

Wow! What a commercial for the Prius! Toyota HAD to pay for the way it was promoted - the scene at the dealer was pure advertising! My wife & I just looked at each other and smiled as the salesman ticked off the advantages of the car.

I wonder how many people will be influenced to look into the Prius now?

On the other hand, I wonder how many will be scared away by the salesman's comments about it going for up to $10,000 over MSRP, and that he had a 700 person waiting list...

as someone said... i bet Honda is pissed....at their tech department for not doing a better job...

they should be grateful to WW for giving them a wakeup call... hopefully they will say away from the snooze bar...might get hurt from the american car companies

i dont think the threat of lines will change much... most i think will realize that its worth the wait...

after all, best way to get the public to want something is to tell them they cant get one.

Just finished watching the taped episode (working last noc).

I kept a tally that I think is accurate:
8 times the word "Prius" was used
1 time the word "Prius" easily readable

Est. 8-10 uses of the word "Hybrid".

I counted at least 5 Prii on the parking lot/showroom.

I liked the episode quite a lot...I have a STRONG feeling there was some research done by someone who was using the internet for a source. They were just too 'on target' with the dealer mark-up, wait list, customer desires, gas price info (i.e. inflation adjusted higher in the '80s).

I also thought the discussion of the deficiencies of the various alternative energies was interesting...the competition b/w the various causes a bit melodramatic, but still made the point that there is no single perfect solution. I was particularly taken by the solar panel overaly taking over the huge chunk of the midwest and how many panels we'd need to meet our energy needs! Of course that was a bit dramatic too, and if individual homes had efficient solar panels and the solar fields were spread out it wouldn't be as terrible, but it still served to make the point.

although i enjoyed the show, it still put a damper on things as i believe it does show the true thoughts and feelings of our administration.

most of the show was environmentally based. and the staffers admitted that they didnt fight for CAFE because they didnt have the votes...

so is that the new policy of the government?? iow, forget fighting for whats right because you are afraid you will lose and look bad? or is it simply that you didnt want CAFE in the first place?

i think the shows message hit on several different but related issues... definitely gave me things to think about. i realize the show is fiction, but i wonder just how far off from reality they were?
