    I got it last night and watched two of my kids go through the first three levels of the campaign mode...

    SPECTACULAR

    I got the limited edition version which was the only one available to me. Cool art work. Great graphics. Great new player interface. Great new weapons. Great new characters.

    As good as Halo 2 was, this is that much better already. A sure fire success.

    I have it pre-ordered, so I assume it'll come on the release date (how'd you score it early David?).
    I'm new to the console gaming thing, and I'm not very good at it. I played Halo2 on someone else's machine a couple years ago, didn't know what I was doing and put down the controller about 20 minutes after picking it up.
    A friend at work has recommended I do the first 2 episodes b/c of the story line, and I'm excited to see how it lives up to the hype.

    Got mine pre-ordered. I've had a 360 since the day they appeared on the market. I haven't played any halo games before but I really liked half-life 2 and gears of war so by comparison I probably will like Halo 3.

    Anybody tried Guitar Hero?

    GHII is a heck of a lot of fun. I would wait for GHIII to come out with the wireless guitar though. I've also pre-ordered the Rock Band bundle with the drum kit, microphone and wireless guitar and am very much looking forward to the drum kit part of that in particular. It's $200 for the entire bundle, and you can add and play a 4th instrument (I think it has to be a guitar) for another $80.

    I have been very lucky in life, i have a patient/friend who has access to a lot of them. The stores already have their supply in stock. This person just sent it over when they got earlier this week. If you like Halo 2 - you will absolutely love Halo 3.

    BTW - the only promise i had to make was not to go on-line with it because Microsoft could track it back instantly and they would get in trouble.

    They are expecting to sell out instantly too.

    Like I said, I haven't really played either Halo or Halo 2 (other than for a few seconds and couldn't even figure out how to control the guy).

    Yeah I like the idea of Rock Band - it looks awesome. I play guitar and drums for real (not well) and enjoy singing too so it should be lots of fun. Unfortunately, while I understand the demographic reasons, I just don't like most of the songs that they typically put on these games. I wish they had more variety. I'd like to see less heavy stuff and more melodic tunes. I love good guitar riffs but in a more country-fied clean style.

    I wonder how many of you are still married? I got my Xbox 2 yrs ago and the wife drove me insane b/c a played it for 2 hrs straight every night..... Then I gave in now I only play once in a while... :(

    GHII has a decent variety I think, but I agree it's weighted a bit more to the metal side. It's still good stuff.
    Not sure what the song list is going to be for Rock Band. I used to play drums (poorly), but haven't had a real kit for about 20 years now.

    I don't play much when the wifey is home. With my jobs hours I am home alone during the day a lot. That said, I haven't played much for a few months. I'm pretty convinced I'm not cut out to be a big gamer. I enjoy the experience for a while, but can't get into it enough to spend more than a couple hours at a time and not very often at that.

    I'm lucky - my wife loves video games and we play gears of war and perfect dark type games together on the co-op campaign. We also do multiplayer games with other family members. It's way more fun together....

    Halo 2 JUST came out for PC...and it's for Windows Vista only. So no, Halo 3 (when it shows up on PC in four or five years) will definitely not be XP compatible.

    But I'm with you, I love the mouse control and online gameplay of Halo PC. Haven't played in months, but MAN that's addictive, especially CTF. If I ever get a Vista machine, I'm getting Halo 2 PC.

    I'm with you there on the control. I bought my Xbox with only demo discs the store gave me. I'd heard about Halo, but when I tried it, it was the testing of the suit at the beginning. I couldn't understand what the big deal was. Later on I got to test out the gameplay and bought it. I was hooked. Bungie (the makers of Halo) put a lot into telling a great story. Everything just seems right. The mood, the music, the funny things the Marines and your enemies say. You won't regret playing any of them.

    Anyone else going to a midnight release?

    further update:

    Over the past several days my kids had about 20 of their friends over to play Halo 3 - Not one bad word was said about the game - in fact they all LOVED it - this is going to be a huge success.

    Also, my kids played out or beat the entire game. My 13 year old said - it makes no sense Dad, I have to wait for Halo 4 to come out because i beat Halo 3 and Halo 3 isn't even out yet :)

    It'll take me a month to beat, on the easy level...if my history with similar FPS games is any reflection on how I'll do with this one.
